Description

The birthing had been long and hard, much more difficult than with her first two pregnancies. By the end of it, Kuishi barely had the strength to clean the three scraps of fur she had brought into the world. And yet, try as she may, as she bathed these cubs clean and placed them by her teat to nurse, she could feel nothing but contempt for them. It was obvious who was the father of these cubs. The girls with their sharp, black noses and the boy with his snowy white chin...Yes, it was obvious that the violent rogue who raped her and killed her beloved mate Nguvu was the father of these babes. Kuharibu, that bastard...Dead but not gone, forever living on in his children.

Kuishi's hatred for these cubs only grew when, after an hour or so, they began to open their eyes. The two girls' eyes were normal enough. The tan cub had bright red eyes like her wretched father, while the other, brownish girl had beautiful blue eyes just like Kuishi's mother, Ghalyela. But the boy...No, as if it wasn't bad enough for him to have his father's chin, he had to have cursed eyes too. Cursed. One eye was red, the other blue. She couldn't help but give a look of pure disgust at this.

Even the Kings and Queens of the Past must believe these cubs should never have been born. Kuishi thought silently. Her brooding was interupted by the soft pitter-patter of feet.

"Look!" came a youthful, excited voice. "They're here! Our new siblings!"

"Diku, slow down! Wait for us!" came another equally young and excited voice.

Kuishi glanced up to see Diku coming her way, followed by Dwala, Sarabi, Naanda, and their aunt via their father, Idili. It wasn't long before she was surrounded by her daughters, each pushing and shoving to try and get a good look at the cubs Kuishi now held in her arms.

"Sorry Kuishi. I tried to keep them back, but they wouldn't listen to me. They're just so eager to meet their new siblings!" Idili said with a chuckle. "Oh, look at them! Aren't they cute?" The lioness made her way to the squabbling cubs and Kuishi, pushing the cubs back a bit so as to give Kuishi and the babies some room. Kuishi simply gave her a blank stare as a reply.

"What are they? Sisters?" Sarabi asked, looking at them with a slight tilt to her head.

"I hope not." Naanda scowled. "We have enough sisters as it is! Some brothers would be a nice change of pace."

Kuishi glanced down her four daughters with whom she had with her mate Nguvu, the cubs she loved with all her heart. It pained her to look at them now, especially Sarabi and Naanda, since they took after their father the most. They reminded her of the love that had been so cruelly taken away from her.

"Two girls, one boy." Kuishi said in a hollow voice, answering her curious cubs.

"Oooo!" all the cubs ooo'd, wonder in their orange eyes as they looked over their new brother and sisters.

"What're their names, Kuishi?" Idili asked with a purr.

"They don't have names." Kuishi answered flattly. She honestly hadn't thought of names yet, and really didn't wish to give these spawns of the devil names. Names were for good and worthy lions, not pieces of worthless trash like these pathetic scraps of fur.

Idili frowned at this. She shook her head slightly at Kuishi.

"Kuishi, you must give them some sort of names. It's not right for a lion to go nameless, no matter their origins." she murmured softly.

Kuishi glanced down at the infants in her arms. The tan female and the male were awake, while the brownish female had fallen asleep. Names...Pah! They don't deserve names! Kuishi thought with a snarl as the little boy with the cursed eyes looked up at her. No, these monstrosities would only turn out to be just like their father. She could tell. But she also knew that Idili nor the rest of the pride would approve of her not naming the cubs, Queen or not.

"Names, huh? Fine. You want me to give them names? I'll give them names, then." she growled. She tapped each one on the head with a claw in order as she named them. "Zira. Kulaani. Chuki."

Idili reared back her head in shock, jaw agape in horror. Sarabi and Naanda looked just as horrified, though Diku and Dwala, too young to understand the terribleness of their new siblings names, were just confused by their aunt's and older sisters' reactions.

"Those are terrible names!" Idili gasped. "Why would you give your cubs such horrid names!?"

"Why?" Kuishi whispered softly, anger flashing in her orange eyes. Idili and the girls had to strain to hear her. "Why!?" she snarled louder, causing everyone to jump back slightly in surprise. "I'll tell you why! Zira, "hate," for my hatred of them and their horrible excuse-for-a-lion father. Kulaani, "curse," for not only is the boy a curse in the eyes of all liondom, but he and his siblings births are a curse upon me and the pride. And Chuki, "rage," for that's all I feel when I look at these wretched furballs I've been forced to bring into this world. Pure. Unadulterated. Rage."

Silence met her words. Diku and Dwala, again too young to truly understand their mother's anger or what was going on, look around confused. Naanda glanced away from the cubs and their mother, while Sarabi gave the infants a look of pity. Idili had a look of pure disgust on her face, though it wasn't for the infants, but rather their mother. She couldn't believe that her Queen, her brother's mate, could ever be so cruel towards innocent cubs. However, she didn't want to argue with Kuishi just now. Not while her nieces were around, and not while Kuishi was still exhausted from childbirth. No, this was a fight for another day.

"Come, children. Your mother is tired. Let us leave her and your new siblings to rest. You can see them again tomorrow morning." Idili murmured, ushering the sisters away. Idili gave a look of disapproval over her shoulder towards the Queen as she left, but her look was only met with an empty gaze.

Kuishi understood why Idili was mad. Had she herself witnessed another female do to her cubs what she did to the ones in her arms, she would have been furious. But she honestly didn't care for the furballs in her arm. She tried to bond with them during their first few moments of life, she really did. But as time went on, she could only see more and more of Kuharibu in them and less and less of herself. Yes, each of them had some of her features as well as Kuharibu's. The girls had her head stripe, and Kulaani had her nose and was closer to her in fur color, but they still had too much of their father in them. Perhaps if they had come out looking more like her she could have loved them, but the taint of their father's blood was too visible for her to forget that they were his as well as hers. They were a constant reminder of the worst day in her life: The day she lost Nguvu, and she herself was violated.

And for that, she could never love them.

---------------------------------------

NOTE: A little story to touch up on why Kuishi doesn't love Zira or her littermates, as well as how Zira got a name that means something as bad as "hate." Kuishi only sees their father, the violent rogue Kuharibu, in them, and they are a constant reminder of the pain and loss she's gone through. Try as she might, she just can't bond with them like she could with her other cubs with Nguvu, so she simply gives up trying to love them when she knows in her heart it's impossible for her too. As for the names, she names them for what she feels towards/about them, not caring if the names are bad or not. Frankly she wasn't planning on naming them at all until Nguvu's sister, Idili, mentioned names. Is Kuishi a bad mother for all this? Well, that's up for you to decide. (Also, the title is a bit of lyrics from "Not One of Us" from TLK 2. I thought it fit. )

Would they be around the 2-7 year old mark at this point?

Yup. Diku and Dwala are about 3, and Sarabi and Naanda are about 6. They each have a three year difference on each other.

Oh yeah, they definitely could get into trouble, especially the younger two. Naanda tried to keep them in check, being the oldest and future queen, and Sarabi played mediator whenever there were arguments between them as the middle child and the most mellow, but they had their fair share of trouble making as well. Especially when they became Pridelanders.

Piper: I'd slap Kuishi, yea, I lost the father to all my cubs. I two mates, two may cubs to number, are now fatherless

(Piper is my main lioness on my old account and ..... I get where she's coming from, but still ..... )

God, I really wanna slap Kuishi right now....

No matter who the father is, they're still HER cubs. And just because the father was a cruel, sick bastard doesn't mean the cubs will be..... Unless if you DON'T treat them right, as I heard, a child's development is based on their parents actions. But I maybe to young to understand, I am 13 XD

But still, I really wanna slap some sense into Kuishi >:[

(P.S Cool base :3)

Well, there a lot of theories on how children grow up to be the way they do (the whole "nature vs. nurture" thing), but for the most part I think most people tend to lean towards the nurture side of the debate.

Kuishi's being kind of a bitch, but don't forget she just went through a lot of physical and psychological trauma herself. Not saying that it gives her behavior any sort of excuse, but still.

Baby Zira is so cute, if she is this pretty as a cub then she should had been a beautiful lioness as an adult. I don't care much for her sharp features since it really makes her look nasty and not really capable of being a good guy which leads to her being killed off. I think they should had made her somewhat pretty but mayb tainted by a past or her current experiences.

The slight madness kind of fits her thin, sharp body though...but still, not flattering or fair to have two beautiful lionesses who are good and then a scrawny, not really attractive lioness for a bad guy.

I think that was the point, though, to make her look like a bad guy. Thin lines and sharp points usually do a good job with that, in making someone look bad. Design wise, her appearance, and those of the Outlanders, was based on Scar's, who is also thin and pointy. Again, this was to make them all look evil, since they were the bad guys for the duration of the movie. From a logical stand point, her thin appearance (and the thin, pointy appearances of the Outlanders) could be due to malnutrition due to living in the Out Lands, where there is no food or water.

But I do agree that they could have done better with her design wise, instead of making her a physical copy of Scar.

I don't know, it would had been believable if maybe you could had seen her ribs. From how it looked, Zira was fairly well fed and so were the other members of her pride. They didn't look like they were suffering from hard times, unless they had taken to raiding the pride lands for their food and water, which...given that Zira was there when Kovu and Kiara met, could explain that is how they commonly do their work. They don't look like they're starving, so it's really just a sign that thin and sharp is bad, round and slender is nice...so not fair.

I think Zira would had been nice if they gave her at least some nice features, but instead they made her look...bleh.

Well, don't forget that in the first movie, Sarabi and co. looked pretty well fed as well despite the claim that there was no food or water left in the Pride Lands.  And although I do think that Zira and her pride did hunt in the Pride Lands to get food (where else would they get it?), considering how dangerous it would have been ("You know the penalty for returning to the Pride Lands!" "But the child does not! However, if you need your pound of flesh...") they probably didn't do it often, and what food they did catch probably mostly went to Kovu (after all, the Chosen One would need to be a big, strong, healthy lion if he wanted to have any sort of chance of killing Simba).

In the end, I think Disney just thought starving, sickly lions would be too graphic or something, so they just didn't make them skinny and malnurished looking. That or they're just lazy. Knowing Disney, it could be either, or both.

Again, I agree they could have done better with Zira design wise. In fact, they could have done better with everyone who wasn't a background character design wise. Even already established characters like Simba, Nala, Timon, and Pumbaa looked weird and off-colored. I get they had different animators for the second movie than they did for the first, but I mean, come on guys. You could have at least TRIED to get their colors right!
