"Keep your dirty paws off my brother!"There's a reason Taka chose Awali as the Bravest for his Lion Guard, and it wasn't just out of favoritism for his brother.
While normally quite docile and a bit on the goofy side, if anyone dares try to harm anyone he cares about, Awali will instantly step up to the plate and defend them with his life with a flurry of teeth and claws. Awali proves this to Taka after the two wander off to the Gorge for a bit of adventure and end up running into a not-so-friendly pack of Black-backed jackals (perhaps ancestors of Reirei's and Goigoi's?). Luckily, Zuzu manages to spot the cubs in time and alert the pride, who promptly chase the jackals back to the Out Lands. But this event stays with Taka for a long time, thus when it's time for him to create his own Lion Guard, he does not hesitate to ask Awali to join as the Bravest. Some in the pride find it a bit controversial, since Awali is not a true royal (with him being adopted, thus not guarenteed a spot in the Guard like he would be if he truly were Ahadi's and Uru's son) and is clearly favored by Taka, but it proves to be a good choice in the end.
