We cheated and purchased this one, I don't know the species. He is beautifully colored with metallic red and green and has a 2.5 inch wingspan.Related content

I have a couple that look identical to this one, so it may be Torynorrhina flammea

Yeah, they do have similar coloring. Japanese beetles are even fancier; they have that decorative black and white trim.

But they aren't quite as pretty-shaped as this one.

Yes , they are bad news, fortunately these June beetles are pretty harmless.
