Man, these guys love to hang out on the screen of my front porch window. I've seen three or four at a time just sit there on the screen all day. I also found out yesterday that they can hiss. Startled the crap out of me the first time, but it has since become a source of amusement for me.

Their little tufts of fur add to the adorableness.

I call these guys ten-lined chafers. I like the sounds they make too.

I caught one of those at camp once! Me and my friend named it Hobbes and carried it around in our hands before it flew away, haha. Good times.

I've never seen a striped one, wonderful shot with the wings.

Their unfolded antennae clubs are SO cool... It's too bad that it's hard to get them to dry out that way.

Yeah, they fan out so pretty! I was happy to nab a male anyway.

I photographed a live female in my yard in 2008. Biggest beetle I've ever seen outside of a captive setting.

That's a sizable beetle!
We get stag beetles here, but they are not this pretty.

These guys are pretty harmless, far as I know. Unless they smack you right in the eye...

we get these in WA, took me forever to find out what they were, they are pretty unusual where i live, and they are fun because they hiss! People used to call them Potato beetles and kill them because they were thought to be pests. I love these guys though!
