Well, this counts as my October drawing for Luke. I needed to draw him for that month and loved the sketch. I had to finish the Halloween picture first.

But HOLY CRAP. I don't know what it is with me. Like I love drawing Luke happy like holding his babies, but then you've got the Luke suffering...I wouldn't call it angst, he's just in this massive amount of pain and it bloody kills me inside.

Now the story here; the background was just that massive blue star field for the whole thing. I thought about adding fire. Either he was leading a battle with his troops and they got blocked at this wall of fire, not a tall one due to a lack of trees to burn. Once it's over he looks back at the few of his troops left alive, and just has this shattered look on his face. There's no escaping the bleeding and dying behind him, both soldiers and innocent people.

The other possibility is it's a funeral pyre. They could possibly be burning bodies of the fallen, and as they leave Luke lingers behind. One of his commanders, Boggs or Paylor, or maybe even Torque call after him. This is the look he gives.

"You're not broken." Either someone says that to him, or he repeats it to himself as a way to continue to move on. However there's moments like this where the sting is just too much, and he has to have a weaker moment. I've spoken of times where he'll rarely show his tears only to a privileged few, namely the three mentioned above, waiting until all of his troops have left before he lets the sadness bleed out of him. This is one of those occasions. He hates war but he also knows it's necessary. The death that he's seen would only have been worse had they not fought back. He just laments that it has to happen at all, even if he doesn't let it stop him.

Ugh, Luke I'm so sorry baby DX

No major complaints here. My new brushes I made continue to serve me well. Shading isn't nearly as difficult as it once was. I'm having more fun doing backgrounds now and love how pretty they look. Shading still isn't perfect and I'm sure there's probably issues with the light sourcing. There's not any fire to his left or right, nor any in front of him, although some embers float past him as you can see. Getting the angle of his back was a bit tricky, and I had to make several adjustments to the lineart, namely his right ear (our left) and the bridge of his nose. I'm in love with this picture I don't have any big complaints with it. You might notice his injuries are similar to the black and white work I did of him earlier this year, only he's got an added cut on his cheek here, meaning it was likely later in the same battle, or at least one not long after. The gash above his eyebrow is also new.

The only way to keep from breaking, is to beg yourself not to fall apart. No one else can change your fate. You have to do this for yourself.
