Description Another update on this guy. Previous WIP photos can be seen in my scraps. I'm hoping to be done sculpting this guy by the end of the year if all goes as planned. *crosses fingers*

Thanks! I tend to do b&w photos for my WIPs for that very reason!

Three questions:
1. What is the material you used? Super Sculpey?

2. How did you do the scales?

3. Why did you decide to do this one in pieceS? Just curious, I know why some sculpt large sculptures in pieces but not sure for smaller ones.

Thanks for the comment!

1. This is super sculpey firm.
2. The scales are little balls of clay that I placed on to the piece and then flattened with a smooth, flat dental tool (the one I used is identical to "f" in this link: [link] ). I did that over and over until the head was covered. I used balls of clay of varying sizes, some of which I rolled out so that they were oval or oblong before I flattened them. Then I used a very small brush dipped in isopropyl alcohol periodically to smooth out the areas between individual scales.
3. I decided to do this sculpture in pieces so that I would have access to parts of the sculpture that would otherwise be very, very difficult to work on, like the inner arms and legs as well as underneath the jaw. As I complete the detailing on a given area, I will be permanently attaching each piece that is now removable so that the finished piece has no seams or gaps. It's the first time I've done this, but I like the greater versatility it gives me.

Hope that helped! Thanks again for the comment.
