Description
The Obbeeysian Duchess class was designed by Quinn Fulton in 1904. This class of 0-4-2PT engines continues Fulton’s line of successful industrial steam engines. Just like the King class, this class wasn’t necessarily the most powerful or fast, but building them was relatively cheap, making them perfect as the first engine for a starting business. These engines had a maximum boiler pressure of 190 psi when first built, this being increased multiple times over the years. The first member of this class was built for the Peesh Coal Mine to help construct the three new departments of the mine.
Beside the prototype, there were two faceless members of this class purchased by the Peesh Coal Mining Company. Just like the King class, these engines would slowly fall into disuse after 1907 in favour of the 0-6-0s that would be introduced from then on. These engines survived for a bit longer than them though. They were put back into service for a short while in 1926, when about a fifth of their locomotive fleet was sent to Bea Works for overhaul. One of them suffered a boiler explosion due to a failed injector, killing its crew and severely injuring two workmen. The engine was sent to the scrapyard, as the motion was severely damaged by the explosion. The remaining faceless Duchess would be turned into a stationary boiler at the end of the year.
