Description
The Obbeeysian King class was designed by Quinn Fulton in 1903. This class of 0-4-0 tender engines was based on her successful design of 0-4-0 tank engines, the Queen class from 1900. These engines were meant for newly started businesses that didn’t have enough money for bigger or stronger engines. This class started out with a boiler with a maximum boiler pressure of 180 psi, this being increased multiple times during overhauls over the years.
The Peesh Coal Mining Company began a major expansion project at the end of 1903. Three new departments would be opened in 1904, 1905 and 1906. The prototype of this class would be bought by the company, as well as three faceless members of this class. This would start a tradition at the coal mines of buying the prototype of every new class of the Nobility Line. The company was renamed the Obbeeysian Coal Mining Company in 1905 and open a new mine at Blein at the end of 1907.
By 1907, when the Marquess class was introduced, the three faceless members of this class working at the mines would slowly fall into disuse. By 1924, these engines would be turned into stationary boilers and their motions would be used to repair the remaining member of their class at the mine.
