Description
The Obbeeysian Princess class was designed by Quinn Fulton in 1904. This class of 0-4-2ST engines was yet another successful design in the Fulton’s developing line of industrial steam engines. This class was an evolution on her earlier Duchess class, featuring a bigger boiler and a different position of the trailing axle. This engine also the first saddletank that she would design. This engine was more powerful compared to the earlier Duchess class, making it a good alternative to this class for new businesses, albeit being a bit more expensive. This class was originally built with boilers capable of reaching 195 psi. Over the years the engines gained boilers capable of higher boiler pressures multiple times.
The prototype of this class was bought by the Obbeeysian Coal Mining Company for the Peesh Coal Mine. In 1952, this engine was involved in a accident when a sinkhole opened up underneath it and the engine was swallowed whole by the earth. A BR class 04 was bought to replace this engine, resulting in one of the rare occasions where the steam engines were actually hostile to a new diesel engine. In 2005, the engine was discovered when the miners happened upon a cave, where the engine had ended up. To their surprise, the engine was still alive. Moving quickly, they took the bare essentials of his body to keep him alive and left the rest behind. After a two year long restoration, the engine was back in steam. Unfortunately, no matter what they did, they couldn’t get the engine to work well enough to let it return to the mines. That, combined with the PTSD it had of the whole incident, left the engine unable to perform regular work. It was send to the railway museum and became an exhibit, as well as pulling demonstration trains from time to time.
