Description
Ah, Final Fantasy Tactics fanart. I haven't done it in a while. Funny enough, it's the news about the complete revamping of Matsuno's Tactics Ogre that has me thinking about FFT again. I've been following up on that game and I so want it when it comes out.Long time ago, one of my watchers, requested a Ramza practice-sparring with Agrias piece. I didn't do it back then because I lacked the skills to do so. Now, I'm pulling from my life drawing experience and my brief stint with the SCA (Society of Creative Anachronism) when it came to swordfighting.
Ramza and Agrias are doing what the SCA swordfighters call a "wrap". It's when you use your wrist and guide the sword in a circular arc that somehow gets over your opponent's shield or strikes the knee in an underhanded wrap. Ramza's going for the overhead wrap, while Agrias is aiming for his knee and most likely is going to score a hit. Their swords are blunt, so no one's going to come away with any more than bruises and scratches.

Thanks, Christine. I am doing better when I'm loosening up, aren't I? Glad you like the composition and see it as believable. I'm thinking about doing more fanart for this game and it will be another battle piece (working those mental muscles and muscle memory now).

Hey there, sorry I took so long to look this over. I've been tied neck and heels lately. Anyhow, it is an interesting piece. I was surprised by the colors on this, they almost give it a surreal quality. The body forms and clothes look excellent and both the pose and the description are very nice. Agrias definately has the better of Ramza. As far as possible improvements go, I confess myself uncertain. I'm tempted to suggest that the coloring be redone to make them more solid but, at the same time, the effect of this surreal quality is growing on me. I suppose I can only leave it up to you if you think this needs any improvement. I am curious though about the SCA. What went on there? It sounds interesting and, depending on what sort of anachronisms are used, potentially hilarious. Please let me know and thanks much for doing this for me.

Yo! No problem - I think we're all hogtied with life and work and everything else recently. Comes with the territory. Yeah, working on DA muro allowed me to fool around with the color palette a bit. It's a bit different from working on Photoshop or openCanvas, but it's neat. I wanted the colors paler instead of bold and bright.
I'm actually thinking about reworking this one, since I can soon relax for a while. See if I can make everything more solid or even try it in ink.
Ah, the SCA is a nationwide organization based around the love and study of medieval culture and craft. Once you get involved with it, you can learn metalsmithing, swordfighting, spear-fighting, archery, leather-tooling, medieval cookery, etc.... The list keeps going and each state should have its own chapter, with which you can become affiliated. I joined it briefly during my first and only year at my first college and there learned the rudimentary (I mean really basic) technique of swordfighting, which was the "wrap" technique. If I ever rejoin it - I really want to - I might want to learn spear-fighting, instead. They said more girls do better in that, especially on the battlefield (yes, they hold mock battles on huge open fields with clashing armies). There are also people who can sew tunics and breeches and make boots in that organization, so it's very wonderful.
As for the anachronisms, the meaning behind the "Creative Anachronism" is that the organization itself is an anachronism in modern times like today. You have people doing old-style lifestyle, crafts, trades, martial training (swordfighting and spear-fighting, for example) and they would look odd to the modern eye, since they look like they don't belong. Many folks call us the "delusional medieval geeks". The group as a whole is geekdom to a different scale and level.
Glad to do it. I'll also look into the Izlude and Ramza battle next. Love that fight.

Wow, that sounds fun! I'll have to learn more about that, though it might be a while before I can do more than that. Thanks much for both the info and the pic and I look forward to seeing your next piece. Catch you later.
