Considering all the crap going on in my life right now... I'm actually sort of stoked. I mean... compare this to my earlier works... on second thought... scratch that...Anyway. Saren Arterius... the villian of Mass Effect. If you haven't played that game... then... wow... I feel bad for you... and that's saying something... I don't feel bad for anyone... ever...
Seriously though, for those that don't know, Saren is the main villian of Mass Effect, Bioware's masterpiece of a game that takes epic story telling to a WHOLE new level. Saren is, to be honest, one of my top favorite villians of all time. He's intelligent, ruthless, cunning, charismatic, and tragic. In the story, he's a Spectre, an agent that has unlimited political power to do whatever he wants and get away with it so long as he fulfills the missions bestowed on him by the Council, a multispecies government of sorts that holds galactic politics together. Originally, though ruthless, he did what he thought was necessary for the greater good, and by the time you meet him in the game, he's been corrupted by the mind control capabilities of the real enemy, and still believing that he is saving the galaxy... tries to destroy and enslave every organic being in the Milky Way.
This particular portrait is actually a painting of a screenshot I found, when he attacks the citadel, in the last moments of the game. For my first digital portriat, I think it came out well, and I'm happy to say that I've come a long way in digital art, and continue to do so. I hope anywone who checks this out is impressed by it, I worked hard on it.
Also, it's downloadable version is wallpaper sized, for anyone interested.

Excellent. Agree fully with your synopsis. I only just discovered Mass Effect in November of 2009, so yeah, what was I doing before that?
Saren is a superior antagonist. In ME2 the main bad guy is simply an overconfident fool laughing at you until you punch him in the face. Saren had conflict!
His talk on Virmire was what drew me into his character, and my jaw literally dropped at the end of the game. I'd say ME2 is the most fun to play, but ME1 was the better game. They are both equally dramatic.

I love Saren's character. He really felt like a mirror to Shepard, and his legacy especially so in 2. Illusive man is a compelling character, but not as a villian. I hope 3 rectifies that.

And i agree: In the end i managed to convince him to fight sovereign. When he shot himself right after saying: Goodbye sheppard, thank you, i really felt sad for him

Yeah, Saren is one of my all time favorite villians. He's strong, powerful, brutal, calculating...
And only trying to do what he thinks is right, but has become corrupted in the process.
And I love the ending's where he commits suicide, no matter how brutal he is... those last four words are just... I don't know.

Was explanation ever given for the sides of his mouth being eaten way? Actually.. looking at your piece, and the way his face glows, I think it might have something to do with the geth.

He sounds like an awesome villain. and the art of him is awesome ^^ I guess the only thing I can do is be slightly picky about that fire, but fire is HARD. I know just how hard it can be.
And since I know nothing other than what you wrote about Mass Effect and Saren (you don't have to feel bad for me) I can't critique at all. But I can't fav it since I know nothing about it and I don't want to(to be honest) know anything about it. Just not the kinda game I wanna play. sorry.

I think a good looking fire would be a crazy-looking one with lots of colors and insane twists and turns. plus a few embers and smaller fires around it so it looks like the fire is spreading.
