Description
This is a tutorial for lightening the color of a wig. It's only semi permanent, so if you wash your wig some of the color are going to wash out. But it looks great though!! xD And I haven't heard of anyone else that has been able to lighten the color of a wig, so this is revolutionary !! haha, just kidding! I hope you find it useful. Yeah, I think posca markers wold be great for that. I don't think normal yellow markers would be able to show up on a brown wig.

Would you recommend using a yellow or a white posca marker?

If you use the white marker the hair will become light brown. If you use the yellow marker the hair will probably become a yellow/light brown mix. I do not know what will make the best shade of blonde, but I'd suggest buying the posca marker with a color that looks the most like the blond color you want on your wig.

I have not found any other type of markers that work, sorry. But a lot of people have commented and asked about it, so maybe you could ask them if they have found something else that works.

Hi "Posca Markers are an acrylic based paint marker. They have vibrant, waterproof, permanent inks that can be used on most surfaces."

No, acrylic paint gets really hard and stiff, I have tried it before :/

I buy mine at Staples, but I don't know if they sell the same stuff at the different Staples stores in different countries.

Does the texture of the wig remain the same after the coating?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Rirukuo In reply to MasterOftheHY [2012-12-16 23:01:58 +0000 UTC]
yeah, it stays pretty much the same, but you can feel that there's something on the wig if you stroke it. Kind of feels like there's a lot of hairspray on it.

Wish you were slightly more detailed about this.
How many layers did you have to paint on to get it that light? How'd you keep the strands from leaking onto other parts of the hair? What was the average wait time till it dried?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Rirukuo In reply to Screamii [2012-11-08 13:46:06 +0000 UTC]
Sorry.
I don't know exactly how many layers it was, but about three I think. The color doesn't leak, if you paint a straight line on the wig it will stay as a straight line. And it takes only a minute or so to dry.

This might just work; it's the best idea I've found so far. The only other one I found was baby powder, which would make a mess. Do have any suggestions where I can find these? I checked the websites of a few stores near me and none of them seem to carry Posca markers.

I can't recommend any online stores, because I buy mine at local stores. I buy mine at Staples or Panduro, but I don't know if these are Norwegian or international stores.

Thanks, I didn't think to check Staples. I'll keep that in mind for Comicon.

How opaque are these? I want to do this to a black wig but I don't want it to go from white to black, just from dark grey to black... could I use these to do that?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Rirukuo In reply to Moofle [2012-10-02 18:38:22 +0000 UTC]
It takes a lot of coats if you need it to be really light. So I guess they're not that opaque. I think it would do work nicely to get a black wig gray. But if you don't like the color you could always buy gray posca markers^^

I just recently washed mine, but most of the color went out :/ So it's more of a last way out if you cant find the right colored wig, or it's great for just temporary coloring.
