Wow, thank you! This was a great picture for a tutorial since it has lots of different elements in it. And thank you for the magic wand tip, it'll be a real time saver

I have no idea what you're talking about. If you've saved the file, it should be exactly the same as what you see here. If you only have the top of the image, then maybe you didn't download the whole file. ...or maybe you haven't scrolled down to see the rest of the tutorial. That's all I can think of.

LMAO.. Nah i didnt mean that soz didn't expalin it to well, what i meant was, I've scanned in one of my drawings, I've coloured it, and now I want to save it so that my line art and my colours are together, but instead i save it and then when i come to reopen it its just the colours with out the lines.. (if that makes any sense at all) Basically Photoshop doesn't save my lineart and colours together instead just the colours.. If u understand that, Id appreciate any help, Cheers mate!

...that's certainly nothing I've heard of before, there's no option in Photoshop just to save one layer. If you look at your layers window, are the lineart and colours layers showing? Are you saving the file in Photoshop format?

right this is real confusing ain't it lol, well i'll try to explain: using a 'flattened image' on the layers palatte i move to the 'channels' pallete. I make a 'new channel' then I select the RGB channel the black linart is then slected on the new channel that i made i paint it black and then invert it, hence the lineart, now i can colour on the RGB chnnel, so basically I have a colour channel and a lineart art chennel toggle each one on or off results in either just the lineart with no colour or colour with no lineart. Right when i save it as a Photoshop file or a JPEG file and reopen it the lines are gone leaving just the colour.. any ideas how i save it n hve linert and colours together.c

Answer: Don't do that. Use layers as I recommended in the tutorial. It's no wonder you're having trouble if you're using the channels panel for everything.

Oh I love the little tricks for speeding the process. I had no idea. It really soften the pain of painting. Which for me is usually as slow as a race of snails.
thank you!

Uhm. No. First of all, I tried the trick of the magic wand MANY times from this tutorial. I tried to retrace my steps, and it still doesn't work. I've tried various linearts and I still get the grey lines when I try to fill in. -.-
Help appreciated. Leave me a message on my profile with an answer would help since I'm not on here everyday.

If you're going to ask for help in future, try actually reading all of the steps first.
Second panel:
Lineart layer is set to 'multiply'.
Layer underneath is where the colour goes.
The wand tool + expand selection part is just a shortcut to help you fill in the areas underneath the lineart layer more quickly. If you try doing this on the same layer as your lineart then you'll get grey dots.

omg thank you, thank you! I love your down-to-earth tutorial. It helps so much for dummies like me who don't know photoshop at all and come from a painting/drawing background.
Yay, now I don't have to buy paints! ^-^

in your tuturial for coloring pictures, you said to put your line drawing in a layer then to multiply it. But how do you do that? I really need your help. it's all still confusing to me. i somewhat know my way around photoshop, but i'm still learning. So, could you pleeeeeease help me out. I'm BEGGING you to help me. It's driving me insane!! so, please?

I'm not sure how to make it more clear... Uh, okay. You know what a layer is, right? When you have more than one layer, you can choose how the layers blend together. Open the layers window, and it should show you what layers you've created. If you take a look at the layers window, you'll notice that above the layers themselves, there is a drop down box (Usually this says 'Normal'). Click on it, and you'll be able to choose from a number of different options for how your layer will be displayed. In that, there will be 'multiply'. I really suggest you just have a play around with each function to see what its effect is.

holy cow! there it is!! thanks a bundle!! oh man, this easily cuts down on my time. i just finished another pic (not that great, but getting there) using your method and it's so much easier instead of having to make a layer over the picture and just boringly trace it. *sigh* well, im so sleepy, i think i'll... {yawn} take a.... >clunk!<
