Description
Click to download; sorry about the large file size.I promised I'd do a tutorial or two a while back, but never got around to it. ^^ ...so here's a little colouring tutorial using step by step pictures from Penguin: Nathan
It's recommended that you have a pressure sensitive tablet, and Photoshop 7 or higher to follow this tutorial.

You could probably do it with a mouse, but it would take you much much longer than it took me. The main benefits of having a tablet are that you can work faster and more accurately, but also for a colouring style like this one, the tablet picks up pressure sensitivity so that you can do strokes with a gradient of colour (like on Nathan's jacket. With a mouse, you'd need to alter the pressure manually, or work with airbrushes, which give a different effect.

Great tutorial, but wouldn't he be shaded so the shading would face away from the explosion? I mean it looks like it's giving off a lot of light but the guy's side facing it is dark...hmm....very peculiar....
Other than that it was great!! Helpful as well as well drawn!

have a question though... wouldn't the city slowly be blacking out from the inside out from the blast? just a thought...anyway, I wish I had any tools to work with other then stealing my pics from one website to another. LOL

O.o I love you, now. You just saved my ASS with all my crappy artworkness. Thank you thank you THANK you for making this, it's extremely clear and helpful, without being condescending. ^.^; BTW, do you know if this same process will work with Photoshop elements?

I'm not sure, I've never used Photoshop Elements. It may not have customisable brushes... but I guess most of the features used in this tutorial are pretty basic Photoshop tools, so you never know.

Okay, thanks again! ^^ I could never figure out how to get rid of those irritating little grey dots at the edges of the picture. I guess I'll just have to have the patience to actually mess around with the program.

Nice tutorial.
Could you tell me where the brush is from that you used in the shadowing step? I'm using 7.0 and can't seem to find it. I'm beginning to think it's a CS brush.

Risachantag In reply to RayeMcCloud [2006-01-06 02:09:36 +0000 UTC]
To use a 'custom brush' means that you make it yourself. Open the panel on the top right hand side of the screen labelled 'brushes', and it gives you the option of customising your brush.
