Thanks a lot for this reeeeeally helpful tutorial! I was searching for something like this for HOURS!
I knew the basics but I wasn't that sure and needed confirmation on whether I would get the right results after torturing my brush xD

I've never cosplayed or had the occasion to make a weapon, but if I ever do I'll be coming back to look at this, and hopefully I'll be able to create something as awesome as that shuriken! *is overcome with the need to make weapons*

Another technic you can use is water+black paint.
Drop the pensel in the black paint, then in water, paint the objekt, wait a little (like, 30seconds or less). Then wipe it off and the black and it will sink in in all the little bumps like metal often have.
Anyway... It works on smaller modles like warhammers, so perhaps it would work for that.
