IMPORTANT: Use of the bootscreen requires software which modifies system files. Please read the documentation here carefully before proceeding.If you have Windows 7 and a widescreen display, you've probably noticed that the boot animation gets stretched to fit the screen. This one fixes that, and more. Please note that the image shown above is only a static screenshot; the actual bootscreen is fully animated.
+ correct aspect ratio for 16:9 and 16:10 displays
+ richer colours than original Windows 7 animation
+ Metro-style text
Instructions:
- Download the RAR file on this page, and extract metro_WxH_en.bs7. Choose WxH according to your monitor's aspect ratio.
- Download Windows 7 Boot Updater and run it.
- Click on File > Load boot skin, and select the extracted bs7 file.
- Click Apply.

Download now includes skins for 4:3, 16:9 and 16:10 monitors. Use the appropriate skin file. Refer to the included chart if necessary.

It's a no-go. I just get a "failed to update text and background" error when trying to apply any of these. Other animations seem to work fine.

Update: I did some recon, and the issue appears to be caused (according to the author of the Win7BootUpdater program) by interference with a new Windows Update that prohibits the changing of the background image for bootup. This means that the aspect ratio-corrected text has to be removed for the time being in order to get it to stick. Hopefully a fix is found shortly.

This may be 3 years too late, but there's a 16:10 version included now.

16:10 is fast being phased out and replaced by 16:9, but the real reason there isn't a 16:10 boot in the download is because I don't have such a monitor to test it on.
I'd made one on request, but that apparently bricked the dude's machine. Sorry mate, no more releases without thorough testing!

Haha, np, I brick my computer all the time, I'm used to fixing it. It's 1920x1200. My setups a dual monitor setup with my main as 1920x1200 and the other as 1920x1080. When it boots, it actually displays the boot screen stuff on both screens, thought it just squishes what's shown on the x1200 vertically to fit the x1080. Dunno if that info matters or not, but just another factor

I must warn you in advance that this is almost certainly not what the Windows 8 bootscreen is going to look like. I've named it 'Metro' only because of the minimalistic nature and the font, which is the same as the one in Windows Phone 7 and in the Metro interface from Windows 8.
