Description This is the cover and back cover to my daughter's birthday party invitation. We are only inviting immediate and extended family so I feel bad that I'm only sending a few of these out in the mail.

I wanted to recapture the grungier Sesame Street from my childhood days. The Sesame Street books back in the 70's were illustrated with such a unique group of artists. I still have all of mine!

Now Elmo and Zoe rule all with their neon poppy colors and mass produced clip art illustrations...DAMN YOU ELMO...DAMN YOU TO HELL!!!!

I miss all the un-PC characters like Roosevelt Franklin, The Two-headed Monster, Frazzle, Herry Monster, Bruno the Construction Worker, Guy Smiley, Sherlock Hemlock, The sleazy street vendor guy, and that crazed piano player that used to smash his head on the keyboard.

Always weird.

this is awesome man, sweet design. and the inside design with the count is great as well. this will mean a whole lot more than some store bought bday invite. so kudos on the idea.

thanks man! this was a ton of fun to work on. Brought back a lot of memories too. my daughter really reacts to these characters, and I hope it is something she can look fondly back on...even thought she will not remember, at least she will have the card to look at.

Great Job Robb, the colors are great. I love to hear other artists notice the change in these shows that have made it through the generations and are so different than what they were so many years ago, these kids have no idea what there missin out on.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

RobbVision In reply to ArtworkByGeo [2008-10-26 02:59:50 +0000 UTC]

No kidding! That show was interpreted differently by so many kids, not sure if it is anymore. I hope it is.

I used to draw those charcters a lot.

I'm hoping to do a Mr. Rogers painting sometime soon. When i was little I used to draw the whole neighborhood.

ArtworkByGeo In reply to RobbVision [2008-10-28 03:57:03 +0000 UTC]

That's Funny. I think a Mr. Rogers would be great. I used to love that show when I was a kid. I have to say though that bein semi-grown up now occasionally watching the shows that I did as kid is funny now... some shows I love more than ever and find a whole new appreciation for. So it's neat for me to see these shows now, its almost like a whole new experience. Especially watching them with my Kid brother and sister.... But I think Mr. Rogers is the only one that I cant watch, LOL. I think he kinda comes off as kinda creepy weird. But maybe whats changed is "Us" and not the show. I think its how a show like that is socially interpreted now than it was back in the 80's. *Sheeeeww* That was kinda deep...for me anyway LOL But it's just a shame I guess that things have changed that much?

HA!! I know what you mean!! I have that problem watching old movies I saw as a kid, i thought they were so awesome, I thought the effects were so realistic and the acting was so great....now I watch a lot of those older movies and it is hard for me to take seriously because they look so dated and the dialogue is so cheesy...but I stil love them, but not in the same way. I just watched Monster Squad and it was so weird to watch, some of the cheesy one liners and affects were hard to take serioulsy, but it's still a fun movie. HA!!!

ArtworkByGeo In reply to RobbVision [2008-12-10 18:45:20 +0000 UTC]

Haha, I agree with you 100%. It's funny cause now being all grown up (... I say this but I'm as close to Tom Hanks in "BIG" as it gets, LOL) and watching these movies with my kid brother now after sooo many years is so different. They just aren't what I remember them being, I mean I thought these shows used to be the coolest thing in the world and were biggest inspiration that got me into wanting to draw comics and super heroes. One that stands out is Voltron... Oh my geez the writing and story lines are were ridiculous, its almost hilarious. But I'll always keep a special place in my heart for my old favorite TV shows and movies... and even have most of the collections, but yeah its just very really different now. One that's never changed for me, and is now Tyler's favorite, especially now after "Clone Wars" is Star Wars, and for me thats pretty cool to so him enjoy it so many years later. I told my Mom the other day that after all my nights of watching comic book movies, Thundercats and playing video games with him, he's growing up to be one fine little nerd LOL.

RobbVision In reply to ArtworkByGeo [2008-12-13 03:32:01 +0000 UTC]

I hope I can have that affect on my daughter! I'm already trying to push Star Wars and Muppets on her! HA HA!!

Oh bythe way, now that you mentioned Thundercats, my brother does a great Lion-O Thundercats call. It cracks me up!!!

HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

ArtworkByGeo In reply to RobbVision [2008-12-19 02:26:22 +0000 UTC]

That's hilarious, ya know it's probably been 5 yrs since me and Tyler have seen Thundercats. But he'll still do his "Thundercats HOOOOOO!!" LOL I think it's great

A very happy birthday to your lil princess! The Cookie Monster is my favorite character from the Sesame Street, and oddly enough he always made me wonder what american cookies taste like...
And do not fret! Elmo was already damned with his particularly sensible cousin.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

RobbVision In reply to PinkieNekoGirl [2008-10-26 03:04:21 +0000 UTC]

THANK YOU!!!! I appreciate that!

Chocolate Chip cookies are great! I read that the cookies they had the Cookie Monster puppet eat on the show were made of rice cakes so they crumbled and did not grease up and wreck the puppet.

Did you mean to show me a link to "elmos sensible cousin". I could not get to it. I'd love to see it if you have a link! COOL!

And oh yeah, "cookie cookie cookie, cookie is good! A cookie for me and a cookie for you!" I didn't know this fact, I wondered about that too when I was a kid. Now the mystery is solved!

Ah, I got the html code wrong and the link didn't come out, sorry about that! Who knows if you've seen already, but it makes me laugh a lot whenever I look at it!
Here you are! [link]

Oh, the memories, and what a great card!

As far as Elmo goes, I think they spend far too much time on him (what with Elmo's World).

HA! I know! He's a cute little fella, but I like the classic guys so much better, so much more interesting!

Oscar is the most unique. I have a book on him illustrated by Carrol Spinney himself (voice and actor for Oscar and Big Bird) That guy is fantastic!!!
