It is a pretty fresh take on Trek ship shapes.

Bloody- This is a great image and concept! I think she's beautiful. One of the sleekest human ships I've ever seen in this universe. has the Federation built any of these "Magellan" class ships, or is she still a prototype/ concept?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RobCaswell In reply to MidmorningDigger [2012-09-10 14:28:02 +0000 UTC]

I think she's a non-canon concept set in a time period post-Voyager. But yeah - she's a pretty neat design!

Quite the design! I've seen few and far between that are like it in most ways, and am impressed by the originality of the design. Very well done!

Thanks - though the ship is not my design. But I'm with you in appreciating its detail and Trek-constrained originality.

Very nice work! Great angle, composition and the colors are simply stunning. And I entirely support your sentiment.

RobCaswell In reply to overseer [2012-08-22 16:50:47 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! This is one that started with the background image.... then I had to dig out a subject to pop in it! So... maybe a little backwards, but I was happy enough with the results

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

overseer In reply to RobCaswell [2012-08-22 16:59:11 +0000 UTC]

Not at all. If I have an idea for a scene, I always start working on my background first. Once I'm happy with that, I can base the lighting of the remaining image on that. Even if I use an entirely rendered background in the same scene (e.g. a planet/nebula or something), I setup the lighting based on that first.

I'm not sure how it works in DAZ Studio, but in lightwave you can add a so called 'Null' object, a kind of place holder to an image and then target all lights there. That way when I add another model (e.g. a ship) into the scene, the lighting is quite uniform.

Plus, different approaches keep it interesting!

RobCaswell In reply to overseer [2012-08-22 23:01:05 +0000 UTC]

Yup - you can create a null and do the same trick in DS

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

overseer In reply to RobCaswell [2012-08-23 00:24:44 +0000 UTC]

Cool. I'm glad that different packages have similar ways of working. I got DAZ Studio last time when they offered it for free, just haven't had the time to play with it yet. I remember using Poser a few aeons ago though.....

When I saw this on the 3rd page, my immediate thought was (USS) Voyager.
I clicked, I saw the bigger version. Aww, not Voyager.
However, DANG sexy Federation ship

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful starship. Thank you for making this and posting it here for everyone to drool over...erh... i mean.. admire. Yeah. admire. ~*makes desperate attempt to not let my fangirl Trekkie side show*~

lol Hey, totally okay that it wasn't Voyager. ^_^ Still a lovely, sleek ship, and the background is well done too. Just all around

You're very welcome.

I like those windows - I just wish I could be on the other side of them, looking out, then looking up, surveying the divine majesty of the heavens as the ship powers through the wider cosmos. Nebulae streak by, parted by the navigational deflectors, the ever-shifting light of passing stars making magic with the shadows. We can all dream of such things, but only dream.

RobCaswell In reply to SylkRode [2012-08-21 18:40:48 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, such tech still waaaaaaayyyyy off. In that respect Trek still works as SF in that reality is still not much closer to it's fundamental premise (exploring strange new worlds at FTL speeds).
