Have to say, I do really like this shot- very lucky to get the two side by side like that! Well composed, the colours and lighting are strong, and of course just the contrast between the motive power makes this stand out

Excellent work. I know which I'd chose.
The two trains are in perfect allignment to each other for this shot, great composition.
Also worth noting, the 5 is cleaner than the 390!

Critique
With so much change in the way the railways look and operate in the past fifty years, when it comes to comparison it is difficult for the younger generation to choose. Steam locomotive traction has been around since the very infant days of the railway, and shaped the country as it stands today. And electric traction was one of it's successors, with raw power, acceleration and speed, it made for greater efficiency at a cheaper price.
However the decision still remains, steam or electric? For me, steam remains just as attractive as it was in it's heyday, there's something about steam locomotives thats not only highly interesting, but also romantic and awe inspiring. However I was born 20 years after steam had left the mainline in the UK (1968 - 1988) and was born into a world of diesel and electric traction, so for that matter alone I cannot ignore the modern stance of railway operation. The Pendolino is for me one of the better looking examples of the next generation of rail travel, sleek stylish, fast and comfortable. Just like their ancestors, who live on today alongside them in harmony, as is seen here with the Black 5, a William A. Stanier FRS masterpiece.

Nice!
I wish I had done the same kind of photo with the 2472 and one of CalTrain's MP36's, but never got around to it.

(I'd write the following as an official critique, but I don't have premium member status.)
Such contrast between the modern high-speed train on the left and the old-fashioned one on the right, and I don't just mean in design. The bright reds and yellows on the modern train, as well as the shapes they form on the train, give the modern train a happy, cheerful motif. The old-fashioned train is just the opposite...it's cold and impersonal, and it's like it realizes it's become antiquated and obsolete. In fact, this color contrast can be extended to the train station beyond the trains...the station on the side of the modern train exhibits bright reds, greens and whites, while the opposite side exhibits a dull yellow at most.
But that is the pessimistic viewpoint, focusing on the differences in this picture. It can also signify the unification of past and present by having the two trains not only in the same picture together, but on adjacent tracks.
You did a marvelous job at taking this picture. Was this deliberately set up or did you just happen to capture this?

Thanks very very very much for the Critique its very much appreciated! Regarding your question i couldn't possible set it up, i have no control over trains, if only!
, yes it was a random chance of a Class 390 passing the steam train, and i got a quick pic that i am very pleased about.
