Description
After 4 years I have finally found a sequel too one of my most famous and most loved photographs "Generations Apart", here we have a similar set up with a Class 390 on the left and LNER Gresley A4 "60019 Bittern" in British Railways Green heading the Palentine railtour parked up in Manchester Piccadilly station.Related content

I like this photo even better. What really fascinates me is how far in age they are apart, but also how far advanced the lines are on the steam locomotive. They look somewhat similar.

That is one of the most amazing things between these trains, age wise they are nearly 100 years apart and yet the design is similar. It shows that you can't improve upon perfection.

I hadn't seen your older pic before (as I wasn't on DA then!) but comparing the two, I actually prefer this one. The lines match so nicely, and being able to see Bittern's nameplate is great.

Shows that the L.N.E.R. got their aerodynamics right back in the day

I see it was a bit easier to get a good shot from the platform adjacent to the Pendolino. There's quite a crush next to the steamer which surprises me considering how much live steal exists in Britain.

Well t start off with this is a A4, only 5 are left in exsistance, from which 3 are in the UK and only currently this one works, Union of South Africa will again work someday currently being refurbished and Mallard as you may know sits in our National Tain Museum in York as a monument for being the fastest steam train on the planet. The remining two are in Canada and American in museums.
Tied with this rariety is the location of the shot, this as you can tell is a terminal station, and in fact as stated its manchester piccadilly which many years ago banned live steam from coming in under the roof (there are 2 through platforms outside the main roof which steamers have passed through) so this made it a very rare event, and this is 2 years old now i think and its never happened since! So yes it was jammed
