Description
Finally, damn It looks like whenever I decide I wanna speed up things, life is just dedicated to throw obsticles in my way...This part of the comic got possibly the most rewrites and changed drastically multiple times.
One of the many changes was the method of narrative:
Originally I planned an actual flashback, with dialogue between the young Mr. and Mrs.Wilde. That way of narrative was discarded by me because, while it would've been more emotional it also felt a bit tear-jerking, I wanted to have the reader more immersed in the situation Judy is in, listening to John's tale, who obviously won't quote word-by-word what happened. He simplifies it and tells the bulk of the story that matter the most to him.

I think I get it now, the stories title. Β Lovely story telling with unique perspective and how John's past with the tailor shop is presented. Β Looking forwards to the next update from one of the best artists and storytellers out there.

I think I understand the title now. John feels "it should have been me" to be able to inspire Nick in his youth.
TheΒ sepia images from the past as John tells Judy what happened work well to tell the tale.

Indeed, John feels like he didn't do something that he should've had done as a father. Thank you very much!

I like the way you are presenting this from John's point of view. It is very well written and I'm enjoying it greatly. I think I can see where the title comes from now as well. Very nice comic and the shading on each panel in the flashback ones is brilliantly done to portray that effect. Well done!!!

It's shaping up to be a beautiful story. And Nick's dad even credits Judy for inspiring Nick to become who he is now. Still love the look on her face as she describes Nick to his dad.

I really like this story. It's believable ina dark way, but it explains why Nick resents his father despite John not seeming like a villain. He wouldn't be the first to be consumed by a dream, and he won't be the last.
Wonderful work!

RobertFiddler In reply to Ec1ipsis [2017-08-13 23:57:40 +0000 UTC]
Thank you, altough I don't understand the "resents" part. Everything sofar implied that Nick likes his father, he just didn't talk about him or his family overall.

Ec1ipsis In reply to RobertFiddler [2017-08-14 15:26:37 +0000 UTC]
In page two, Judy comments "He seems nice, but Nick said..." which suggested to me that Nick has said some unkind things about his father. When Judy started musing on what it could have been that Nick was talking about, I gathered that Nick resented him for something he'd done in the past and had told Judy about.
Just an inference! Again, loving the comic.

I see and that was on the goal of page 2 but on page 3 it is revealed however that Judy only remembered that Nick's mom had to scrape money together for his uniform, and she wonders what his father was doing, what was he like, during that time (meaning that Nick did not say anything about his father at all). There is also her notion of "Nick seem to like him a lot, so I shouldn't worry so much"
No problem, just thought I point out some connectable dots! Thank you!

nice teist, it's give a gritty dark tone with reality. The wife obviously couldn't keep up with debts and a unenployed husband.Β

Thank you! That is also a possiblity. Or just seeing him fail over and over again, getting more and more frustrated and desprate resulted in him neglecting the family. After all he never said he was unenployed.

Byron Howard said however that since Nick's dad got written out, his name is ultimately undecided.

Yes, Judy is quite the one to inspire others.
I believe you made the correct choice for the flashback. The images and the narration gets the story across just fine.
A heartfelt story but fortunately there is an "almost" in that last sentence.
