Description
Isn't that awesome??? zomg, I'm so excited!!!
---------------------------------------------------------------------
**EDIT: a constant question I get is, "How well does this stuff hold up? Won't it crack or break?" I think this is a rather silly question. Of course clay can crack or break. It's not metal.
Has mine broken yet? No. I made sure to take care of it by securing it to my jacket and packing it well when traveling. Treat it as you would any prop: With care.
As said above, this tutorial can be used for other armor and characters too, not just for Lightning. I'm sure other materials can be used as well, like real clay (if you have access to a real furnace) or paper clay, which air-dries. I chose Scupley cuz I knew how well it held detail, which was important for this prop.
I'll be adding fiber glass on the inside (if I can get ahold of it) to strengthen it so it doesn't break.
Materials:
...1/2 box of white sculpey = $6
...Tin foil = free
...Wire = free
...scotch tape = free
Time: 14hrs (so far)
Finished Pauldron

I'd suggest paper clay. That stuff gets as hard as rock. O.o you can find it at Michaels'

Definitely. My friend use this to do her Zelda shoulders, but she used paper clay instead of sculpey. ^^

Oh my god, that makes SO much more sense. I'm doing a Terra cosplay, from Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep, and I was wondering how I was going to make his shoulder armor. You saved me! Thanks!

I didn't get to wear my Amano Lightning cosplay but I did finish the pauldron ^^! I used paperclay, acrylics, and of course EL wire for the lighting. The tip of the horn is also painted gold, just that the room lighting couldn't catch it. Your tutorial helped me out so much though, I'll definitely be using it for other pauldrons in the future! Thanks!!

I've never wanted to test it... I suppose you can buy one of those tiny packets and try it out.

I suppose I might have to, but since I work at Michaels Arts and Crafts, I have a lot of materials at my disposal.

Great work I'll make sure you PM you if I use it!

Thank you so much--this is definately going to come in handy for me. The shoulder armor included with my cosplay costume that I had ordered was crappy beyond belief and I wanted to make my own. The problem was, I didn't know where to start....until I found this. I'll send a picture of the progress!
