hey man, just a quick noob question; is there a better way to do this nowdays? without splitting the mesh and making double verts? thanks in advance

can i ask you one question
how to fast join the vertices? because after the split, the vertices would be separated and to join them i need to select them 1 by 1.

I use the remove doubles feature. Just select a whole heap of vertices including the ones that don't matter and click remove doubles.

Sadly there isn't a better option (other than the modifier). And I thought "V" was the only way to split verts... "Y" will come in handy.
Thank you.

This might be old news since the tutorial is a wee bit old, but the edgesplit does the same thing without destroying the model. The thing is, it's kinda hard to use with subsurf, but it still rocks because you don't have to de every edge yourself!

That's true but this tutorial was made before edgesplit existed. Like you said, this is old

Nice tut! I was wondering how to make certain parts of a model less smooth than other and I think you solved the problem. Thank you!
