Description
I started this picture over a week ago, but had to put it aside. Things are getting busy as I prepare to graduate, and drawing pictures isn't high on the list of priorities.I expected this to be an easy project, since dandelions have a simple, repetivive structure to them. I was right about the fuzzy seed cluster, but wrong about the leaves and stem. Those were the hardest part, and took over half the time. Organic shapes are tricky for me, which is why I generally avoid them.
Done with vectors in Inkscape, as usual. Minor update: The fuzz is a little more detailed now.

Wow is the best word I can come up with to describe what I think of this picture. Wow.

Really nice work. The seed cluster looks fantastic and the other parts look very good too. It's also very suitable for a wallpaper because it's not overly busy. And I like that shade of green.
I wish the little "glows" around the flying seeds faded out more smoothly, but it might be hard to do in vector. Just a minor detail anyway.

That's got to be one of the best pieces of work that you've done so far!

Not a problem! Thanks for asking, though.

Nice work! I like the colors!
I downloaded it and used my PSP to scale it to my resolution, 1400*1050.
I know that its not nice to modify peoples work, but i hope you allow me to do that.

I'm glad you like it; thanks for the .
Also, resampling isn't really modifying. If you want the image to fit the screen at your native resolution, you pretty much have to. Modifying would be more like adding butterflies or using the dandlelion in another work. So, yeah, you're cool.

Very nice, although i would find the leaves and the stem the easiest thing to do and the seedcluster all but impossible.

To create the seedcluster, I made three generic seeds with different-length stems and then just duplicated a bunch of clones. Drawing the basic seeds took maybe 20 min, while the duplicating and rotating took about 15.
The stem and leaves were a lot harder because I first had to get the organic shapes to look right. The stem was easy, but the leaves at the bottom and inside the seed pod were more tricky. Then, I had to find a green that contrasted with the background while still allowing gradient shading effects for the lighting. With all the tweaking and fiddling, the whole process was about an hour. The bottom leaves are still too small for the size of the flower, but I'll leave them that way because I don't want them dominating the image.
