Description What can I say?
I was tempted to commission !DracheaRannak to draw me a new sailor generator base and just do the coding and somebody else had the same idea! Now I'm just floored by the beauty of this generator. I wish I knew how to program in flash... Seems so much more elegant!

My first reaction was: Wow, no need for me to update SailorXv2 anymore... But then I realized that this generator is missing quite a few options that SailorXv2 has (and vice versa) so I suppose SailorXv2 is not obsolete yet.

But looking at these beautiful graphics makes me want to start from scratch again... My art has improved so much again since I started SailorXv2 that I'm beginning to see lots of flaws...

EDIT [April 2013] I have decided that I will move on to SailorXv3. Not any time soon so hold your questions, but especially with the new anime coming soon I will certainly enjoy it. And I hope to be starting a programming course soon so the next SailorX release will be exactly what I want it to be! Multiple poses and expressions, princess gowns and most of all better artwork!

The new generator is nice but I it is very limiting to the version you had made. I would love to see more then a pretty doll but lots and lots of options for the doll you have now.

What about the art style? Do you prefer the rounded colors I am using or would you prefer a more official Sailormoon cell shading style?

ssoldiersaturn In reply to SailorXv3 [2010-01-19 20:49:58 +0000 UTC]

If it is the art style you are not happy with then you should make a new one. The kiss program had soo many more colors compared to this thing. I could not even get maroon hair.

I played with this thing all day and it does make it look really nice but again it is too limiting that people can easily make the same senshi in a year.

If you also look on the website of DollDivine, They have many dolls made from DA artist doing the art, so this was kind of coming eventually since DracheaRannak-san's Sailor Art is very popular.

I couldn't even get no bangs. I tried making a few existing Canon characters into senshi but most don't have bangs and I can't do without them in the flash game.

If that is the case, it might even be easier to go with it then. So you can make any ideas that you want to put in without taking some much time.

Since you were thinking of changing the interface, I would suggest to go with your feelings and do it.

For switching off of Kiss, People have more access to flash but you can not save on it. However you can just tell people about other options they have. That always has been a problem with Flash is that you can not save anything.

I know... I've been watching him for years!

But yeah, it's the art style. Cell-shading would be so much faster to finish!!

I'm leaning towards SXv3 right now, and I know it wouldn't take very long to get up and running... well. By SailorX measurement of time. Maybe by summer?

ssoldiersaturn In reply to SailorXv3 [2010-01-20 13:07:56 +0000 UTC]

Same here ^_^. I guess this saves him for all the commissioning he would have to do on Sailors.

I wouldn't see the harm in giving it a try and even more so just because you want a better look for it. This doll maker is really pretty when finished but there were some bugs I found.

- When you messing with it close up, the gloves will disappear because of the click off feature.

- Long names are bad for this thing. It cuts them off majorly and no way to go around it.

The adding affects were just over the top (most of them anyway). Would Cell-shading make it harder for updates on adding options?

Absolutely not. Cell shading would make EVERYTHING easier. ^^

Is the style that DD&DR use "cell-shading?" I mean, I noticed a different shading style with the hair and body, but that was about it. Like ~ssoldiersaturn said, yours has many, many more colors...although to be frank, I don't see it as a competition. As others have said, they each have their strengths and weaknesses, and both are fun in their own right. So I hope you don't see this new doll as reason to scrap everything awesome about SXv2!

SailorXv3 In reply to the-sweet [2010-01-20 07:29:10 +0000 UTC]

Absolutely not. But it has raised my standard art-wise. And yes, that's cell-shading. I use a more realistic style of shading, which is taking a lot more time actually, which is why I am tempted to start a new version - I would switch to cell shading, which would make hair especially must faster to draw!

I am enlightened! Thanks for the pro-tip, I didn't know that. When I've heard "cell-shading" in the past, I thought of the Zelda games where he looks like a little paper character running around. Compared to the older style where he didn't look like a toon, I was worried SXv3 would be like that, which is why I had to ask! Glad to know "cell-shading" doesn't always mean "like a kid colored it in with a crayon."

Honestly, I played around on the new generator, and I thought it was cute, but I still like the v2 better. I'd love to see it finished. I'd love to see all of the promised parts of the v2 done before you move on to a v3.

Noooo, don't go flash. Please please please. There is so much that V2 has to offer for creative purposes and so much that we have all waited so patiently for. This flash rubbish is constricting, confusing, there is so little choice in comparison and it will melt into all the other banal and silly sparkly kiddy flash dolls that infect the airwaves. Don't do it. It was lovely of Drachea to draw it, I've never been in any doubt of that, but this is just wrong. Don't become one of those long-running projects that has jumped to something new and stupid and left the older, wiser and better previous version and all its devoted users out in the cold - AGAIN.

I have played around with that new one
it does lack the save image

but the idea of back and front hair types being different
would be good in version3 of yours tho
in this one I did not like the facted the colors were very limited it didnt even have a sailor choker choice in it
most of the colors were to dark

I have a SD sailor scout maker type of doll base
but I cant do the code tho I do have more than one base since then

This new generator has actually given me quite a few ideas of how to improve SailorXv2, including the hair, but it would basically be a rebuild... so I have to think about whether it's worth it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

the-sweet In reply to SailorXv3 [2010-01-20 04:36:48 +0000 UTC]

I think one can glean a lot of ideas from this new and other generators. Maybe make a "wish list" of possible ways to improve or enhance Sailor X, and then arrange them according to how much time they'd take or how wanted they are? I still think SXv2 has way more features than the Flash one, although I do like the various background options and hairstyles in DD&DR's doll.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SailorXv3 In reply to the-sweet [2010-01-20 07:30:47 +0000 UTC]

Agreed. It's mainly the hairstyles and backgrounds that got me jealous. And the items... LOVE the wands and scepters etc! I've always wanted to add those to SailorX, but I think that is something I will leave for SXv3, simply because of the shading style. not really in the mood to create something like that in such detail...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

the-sweet In reply to SailorXv3 [2010-01-21 02:26:16 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I agree with you: save all the "new" stuff for a future version, but as for the things that you planned for Sailor X basic and have grayed out in SXv2--why not try to get those done before adding new features?

I've always thought part of the fun is not just messing around with the (near-infinite) options in SXv2, but if there IS something missing, doing my best as an artist (shabby as I may be, unable to compare to yourself and =DracheaRannak ) to add that thing that I have in my head, to make the visual more complete. Wands and other bizarre accessories are part of it, and part of the challenge!

Thing is, there'll always be crazier ideas for Otaku Senshi than there ever can be in a generator, no matter who makes it or what method(s) they use. Just looking at the DA galleries with SM art in them proves that! They're gorgeous, but even Naoko's girls had some continuity to them!

SailorXv3 In reply to the-sweet [2010-01-21 04:10:10 +0000 UTC]

If I decide to create a SXv3 then I wouldn't want to go back to the older SXv2, just like I don't like thinking about doing anything with SailorXbasic. It's not just about the final product for me. It also has to be fun on the way and I can't enjoy working on art that - in my eyes - is horrid (SailorXbasic)! The clearer the vision of SXv3 in my head the more the flaws in SXv2 become visible to me...

Anyway, I'm playing around with a new base for SXv3 and if I come up with something I love I might move on (not completely abandoning v2 just yet). I already found a nice pose, but I'm having a hard time converting it to an anime style... might lose my patience. Or ask Drachea for help.

well I thought it would be for version 3

it does have the hair wich in its self is ok

but if I can learn how to do the codeing
and since I do tend to recolor things like crazy mad ^_^

and i got nothing better to do
I would so do it

but i would have to go find the info on how to code flash
or still plug a way at kiss doll code ^_^"

SailorXv3 In reply to zenimoonchild [2010-01-20 07:33:25 +0000 UTC]

KiSS coding is actually quite easy to learn if you have a knack for logical things like that. Flash sounds a little more extensive... But anyway, it's not the coding that's taking me all that time. It's the artwork. I just rarely feel like drawing anything like that anymore. feels like a chore. Which is why I'm considering a Version 3. Breathe new life into SailorX.

well I use to have notes on what I have learned
right now I am haveing a paint program problem
then dealing with not getting the back ground color transparent

I do have parts for a SD sailor scout generator but I only got the basic fuku parts done and I have a 2nd SD pose base I have been working on
my color change limit was set i think at 20 different colors then
tho its kind of a basic style ^_^

I don't know why your viewer might not be able to find your palette anymore. You did double check that it's actually in the right directory and that you spelled it's name right?

You don't really "code" Flash, as it's more of a static drawing environment where you have to specify what elements are on top, which are on bottom, etc., just like with the KiSS system. Still, it can be very intimidating if you've never used it before.

I love the wide variety of option that V2 offers. Yes, this doll is beautiful (I was messing around with it yesterday XD), but it really doesn't offer much and the tiara layering is wonky. (the flash henshin bits do make it adorable.)

The major flaw involved with that particular doll is that most of it is based on existing images. which doesn't leave much room for true customization.

How about this. Post an example of what you think you might do with a v3. and then see what the feedback might be.

Obviously don't give up on V2 yet. you've come so far with it.

I really like v2 and I'd prefer to have you work on that. Well, like *kittyocean said - you can always copy the coding into a v3 later. But well... in the end it is your own desicion ^^

SailorXv3 In reply to Kairi-Heartless [2010-01-19 20:08:56 +0000 UTC]

If I was to start on v3 it wouldn't take as long because I could indeed copy a lot of the coding. And I also learned a lot of about the coding and I'd probably be able to make it more efficient. If I was to use kiSS again and not Flash, which might be even easier - I don't know yet. But I'm looking into it.

And I wasted about two and a half hours and stayed up past midnight playing with that lovely flash game, so I know what you mean about it. ^^
