Description
Outside Budapest, I was treated to an Indian Classical theatrical dance. There were 3 ladies, I forget this one's name but she is from Germany and studied intensively in India for some years. The Theatre is called Muvelodesi Kozpont near the Mum Park Mall. Very professional performance and a good crowd as well. This position is called the "Lotus" which is the classical pose of the goddess Laxmi, its part of the classical dance called "Bharata Natyam" in India which is philosophically like the ballet in the West.

I'm so used to the more common spelling of the goddess' name, being Lakshmi, that I was quite confused for a moment. (:
Fantastic photograph, might I add.

Thanks! Glad you liked it. Yep, there are many variations in most Indian names when spelt in English. In the official language Hindi, the spellings are usually constant but vary according to pronounciation from place to place in the country.
I guess its like comparing accents from California to Texas to Toronto

All the scriptures and such I've read so far managed to spell it one way through the translations (aside from Ganesh's name, may I say). That was what really made me a little confused.
That's quite useful to know, actually. This way I won't have to run around correcting people, since now I know that they're probably not actually wrong.

the light does eerie things to her expression.
in Bharatnatyam, the expression's important too.
love how she's off-set by the black.
very nice.

oye...
whats up? nice to see a bhartanatyam dancer in ur gallery...
Im not too sure about the philosophy behind the ballet but being indian i can give u some added info on bharatanayam... classical indian dance has a particular style for each of the elements... bharatnatyam signifies fire... and there are a whole bunch for the other elements...
btw, hav u bin to india?

Champa as in Jasmine. Jasmine is also known as "Mogra".
Champa is also a popular name still in use in rural areas of India.

Thx buddy for the detailed assessment and the This was ineed one the best shots I could take, we were sitting right up front, and since it was a dance, using long exposure to get the shots would have ended up in blurry pics...when I took this shot, the dancer was still and lighting on her was perfect...so perfect time to click!
Cheers!

Thanks mate, its not overexposure by the cam, the lights had been pretty much brighter than you see, so technically it was under-exposed
