I've seen many people say that it's not possible to make transparent things in SAI but it is. (~o3o)~
I used to export my files as .psd and make them transparent in Photoshop, but it's much easier this way.
This is how I made my ID and Shimeji transparent. ^^

Many commonly asked questions are answered here.
-Use File>Save As or File>Save. If one doesn't work, then use the other.
-But no matter what...ALWAYS choose the second PNG save option!
-If it doesn't work, then update SAI.
NOTE! I have realized that there are multiple "strains" of SAI. So far, I have noticed 2, but both of these have been able to save transparencies. If this tutorial didn't work for you, you may have gotten some weird "strain."

For some reason whenever I save it to png then save it as the second option it doesn't appear transparent anymore o.o the background just appears white and it's been like this for awhile now D: can someone help please? :/

I have the same problem...It's because you're version of SAI that don't saving pictures in normal png.

I have a problem. Β I save a PNG in GIMP with transparency to the desktop. There I see its transparent. But when its opened in Sai, the transparency is gone, and there is a solid white background with the image. I thought I did this before, but its not working now. I work on the image in Gimp, so i need to do this in this order. any advice ?Β

If you open it in sai and you see what looks white, it's just the canvas.Β
Unless you edited the pic afterwards and saved ( doesn't sound like you did this ), you are confused.Β
The canvas of sai is white, when saved its transparent.Β

If you PURCHASED SAI, it should show under the 'options'.

my problem is i cant paste transparent images into sai? If i try and paste a transparent picture all i get is a black background...
it shows up transparent if i save the image first and then open it in sai, but if i want to use a transparent picture on top of a drawing ive been working on im not sure how to without copy and pasting
