Description
This tutorial is new. It includes additional notes and will replace the preview version, as it includes one through three point perspective and other things....Murr... I haven't signed on in months, but I thought I might upload a little somethin' somethin' for you before I lose my internet. So yeah, I won't be replying to notes, comments et cetera, but I hope you will enjoy this tutorial.
Heh, lots of typos I'm sure. u__u Careful before you download; the image is around 15 thousand pixels high.
D.A. LUV,
Sasha Lynn Stowers
UPDATE: Thanks very much for support via faves and comments. I'm also really happy to get a DD for a tutorial (my favorite devs.)
For those of you using this for classes or as a teaching aid: I'm happy you find this so useful. I don't mind if you use this as an outline for your work. But if you could credit me with the text, point your students to my website or DA page that'd be awetastic. Also, if you could provide me some info where you are teaching it (name of school, location, etc.) or pictures of your students using my text that be great : ) I'd like to combine these and other tutorials into a mega thick book, and I think it would helpful when I create a book proposal.
Thanks very much,
Sasha Lynn Stowers
I make my tutorials for free, but if you enjoy my tutorials and want to donate some funds for gas, art books, and such, I would appreciate it. [link]

I never fail to mention this tutorial when people look for help. Although about 4 years have passed since I first found it, the information is still so helpful and full of insights that are so very valuable to those who take the time and read it.

I might be mistaken, but I think you switched the location of the horizon line for the bird and worm's views, respectively. Shouldn't it be high up when you're a worm and far below you when you're a bird?

far-below. you're the one far below / high up. not the thing you see.
at least i thought so...

don't worry, there's actually a lot of misundertstandings like that.
for example, when watching a mirrored dance tutorial, do you follow it as it is or mirror them?

Tremendously well-done!
My favorite part is the behavior of color re: distance. One thing I would add to distant colors appearing lighter and cooler is that they are also less saturated than their closer-in equivalents. Pretty much have to be fooling around in Photoshop to take advantage of it, but still a valid effect.
Thanks for the tut!

I LOVE YOU!! I like drawing but never have the time to get formal education for it... and that's why I use dA!!
So now I got the building stuff... how do you draw people from different perspectives? Or through a fish-eye lens? I'm so used to drawing things straight on at eye level that when I tried doing something like worm's eye point of view, I completely FAILED.

Almost done! So far I have ten pages of my sketchbook filled on this and now all I have left to cover is three point! Thank you SO much!!
I've been taking art classes all my life and even spent some time in art school, but even though my teachers claimed I was skilled in my craft, I never really felt like I knew what I was doing. Then, one day, when I was fallowing a tutorial on drawing sci-fi machines, it hit me. I don't know perspective! Every art class I have ever taken always seemed to start off with value or line and would only briefly cover perspective in a small portion. But how can you really understand or appreciate value and line if you don't even have a concept of depth!? So, I decided to go out and reteach myself from the beginning, starting with perspective.
You have been a GREAT teacher! Thank you so much for putting this up here and helping me out in my own personal journey

I HATE perspective. It's always been my enemy. I didn't notice until a few months back that I drew everything on pretty much a completely flat plane.
I'm really glad to have found this; it helped a lot. I understand the concepts but the problem I'm having is understanding how to use (and where to use) all three different types of perspective drawing in the same image- or is it not possible? etc. I want to see these methods implicated, used for a final image, so I can better grasp the usage of them. I haven't found a tutorial like that yet.
Thanks a heap for sharing. I'll have a look at your other tutorials for sure.

Well, it is possible to use all three. If something is a slope, something is forward-facing on a flat plane, and another has the corner facing you on a flat plane, that's the kind of situation when things become complicated.

When I first glanced at this, I thought it would be like every other perspective tutorial and give all of the same info, but I was wrong! There is a great deal of information I didn't even realize! (especially the X trick )
