    Lucifer and Disturbia had grown more close during their time in Vienna. Having both gotten the kinks out and found their stride in the practices they did in the guest arena leading up to the main show. Andreas had gotten more friendly with them and joined them on their practices and to watch the open classes that occured before the main event. They had grown friendly and seemed to form a trio that followed each other around when they all had downtime. “So let me get this straight.. You both entered HCl, knowing it would be in foreign countries, and willingly joined knowing the chances you would not be able to communicate were reasonably high..?” Andreas asked in disbelief to the other two men as he gave Disturbia some pets. “You are correct.” Syazel chirped as he prepared the thoroughbred’s lunch. “I usually have peers who can help me if I don’t understand things.” Lucifer said with a shrug as he filled the other’s water bucket. “That’s quite rich coming from someone who had forgotten the tianshi script until rather recently.” Andreas retorted. “It’s been a rough time earning our way here..” Syazel reminded as they finished up by Disturbia’s stall. It was almost time for the rider order to be posted and they wanted to see when Lucifer would be riding.
    The trio had made it to the announcements board where there was a long sheet of paper and many bodies all clamoring to see what order they would be competing in. Lucifer peered over, noticing his name on the 23rd slot, the first of his team. His other teammates were at the 35th and 47th slots. He grimaced, feeling bad for Anton.. He personally dreaded going last.. “Should we head back for dinner?” Syazel asked, to the subtle nods of the other two. Lucifer put a hand to his stomach, he couldn’t think of eating with the nerves eating away at him.. {I have made it through an Olympics and a World Cup, yet here I am getting butterflies like a greenhorn..} he thought annoyedly to himself as he followed the gang into a small cafe. Andreas ordered espresso shots, small pastries, and water for the three of them. “This is good for the nerves. Drikk opp.” he said before throwing the espresso shot back. Andreas then took a bite from his croissant and waited for the others. Lucifer downed the shot easily enough, hoping it would at least take away some of the nerves. Syazel struggled, making a face with how bitter it was and he gratefully reached for the small chocolate pastry he had to munch on. “You look more nervous than you should be..” Andreas pointed out dryly after five minutes of awkward silence. “Something about this tournament is different.. I’m usually used to having that 18hh safety net of Dante with me.. He was quite the security blanket for events that push my boundaries like this..” he said as he peered into his water glass. Syazel gave the other a pat on the back, “You’ve both improved so well and come so far. You’ve more than earned a spot on this stage.” he reassured. Lucifer nodded slightly, feeling a bit better, however the butterflies still lingered into the night.
    Andreas parted ways with them and wished them well, tomorrow was a big day. Syazel meanwhile walked back with Lucifer to their hotel. “You should take a bath, it’ll soother your mind and your muscles.” he suggested as they closed the door. Lucifer nodded, figuring it was a good idea. He needed anything to help calm down because competing in a bundle of nerves tomorrow would not be a good scenario. He soaked for a while while Syazel flipped through the tv channels absentmindedly. “God, Austrian tv just isn’t that good.. I wish I had a mini Andreas in my brain that could translate it for me..” he muttered as Lucifer rose slowly to get out. “Unfortunately, we don’t have one in our brains..” Lucifer commented as he wrapped the towel around his waist and brushed out his hair. “You’re right.. However we should get to bed soon.” Syazel reminded before turning both the tv and the lights out. They had a busy day ahead of them..
    Lucifer woke up early enough at 9 AM. He stretched and pulled on his competitors shirt, looking down at Syazel, curled up and fast asleep. He smiled softly and retucked the other in before heading down to grab an apple for breakfast. The male crunched on the apple as he made his way to the guest barns to make Disturbia’s breakfast. The thoroughbred nickered appreciatively as he got a full hay bag to munch on as well as supplements and some grain for the day ahead. Lucifer took out the tack they would use and got it polished and cleaned before pulling out Disturbia to be groomed. The stud nuzzled the other as he was groomed to a healthy sheen and tacked up with the fireflies team gear. {The new colors really do suit you..} he thought to himself as he rode the other around the guest arenas to get a feel for how the day went. After a short workout, he brought the other in for lunch and a break until it got to 3. Syazel and Andreas greeted the other and stated plenty of statements of encouragement in varying languages. They already had their posters they were going to brandish in the audience section for later.
  3:00 soon hit and Lucifer brought out Disturbia to warm up and wait for their round. “#23, Lucifer Archangel of Firefly Frenzy showing BTs Devil in the Details” went over the loudspeaker and the pair cantered into the arena. They were one solid unit, powering through the course in sync. Lucifer felt his anxieties melt away as they sailed over the obstacles. They got it together and would prove to everyone they earned their spot in the champion’s league.

Artist's Note: Oh my gosh.. I was terrified for this whole piece, for the league itself. I really pushed myself with not tracing nearly as much and trying out shading. I feel like my style worked well for this piece but wether it stays for the next leg is an absolute tossup. I hope you guys enjoy this piece as I much as I did (for most of the time making it..)!
