Artist's Notes: Commission done for . This is Oilbaron, a tanky kaiju that wanders along coastlines. I was told to give the creature a "fire on the water" aesthetic so after discussing with the client we decided to have vents in the creature's shell to let steam escape and pores on the tail that leak a petroleum like substance (the name of this creature was agreed upon after these decisions were made). Going along with the oil aesthetic, I based the shell on various types of microscopic marine organisms, specifically foraminifera, the fossils of which are used as indicators for possible oil deposits. This was a lot of fun to do, especially figuring out how to configure the shell and how to make the oil look goopy enough.
