Artist's notes:
Glossosuchus magnificens (“magnificent tongue crocodile”) was likely one of the most primitive of the retrosaurs as, like the modern crocodile, its posture could transition between sprawling and erect depending on what the creature was doing at the time. Its name come from its robust hyoid bone which would have supported a powerful tongue in life. Though it likely would not have been as powerful as the tongue of a chameleon and was most likely used to sense its surroundings, in the same manner as snakes and monitor lizards, it is still plausible that the tongue may have assisted in prey capture. The tall vertebral struts likely formed a skin covered sail or fin in life and, along with its array of osteodermic plates, may have assisted in thermoregulation.

This one is based on slurpasaurs, the old film technique of gluing fins and horns onto modern lizards and baby crocodiles to pass them off as dinosaurs in attempt to lower the cost of production. Based on various lizards and the crocodile as well dimetrodon which is often confused for a primitive dinosaur despite being completely unrelated. Link to challenge: tyrantisterror.tumblr.com/post…
