I dont consider meditation to be quite the same as praying, im not reaching out to an imaginary entity when i meditate, i am just attempting to blovk everything out so i can relax for however long i have time to.
E.G meditation helps me be less angry, praying makes me more angry...

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF Lovely war going on here guys.....Can I watch you commit bloodshed over somthing so silly.....Here's my opinion.....
Religion is like school
Praying is like reading
God is like teacher
You are like student
That is failing horribly....
Hell is detention and heaven's home after school.
Hell sounds good to me

Praying would be a one sided conversation if you do know who to listen. very few of my friends are Christian actually and a lot of them ask me why i pray even if it doesn't seem like it does any thing. Answer is simple really one time I asked for something specific to happen and it did just as I asked for it. it was the most terrifying thing I had ever experienced. not sure what answered me but i know someone is freaking listening brings to mind the phrase be careful what you wish for.

I never prayed when I had to go to church with family >> Not out of a specific lack of belief but because I was like "Uhh...ok -looks down and waits for them to say we can stop-
I did try it during a brief attempt at Catholicism... Nothing happened O: glad I stopped attempting religion in general.

Praying (1): To pray for the less unfortuante...
Praying (2): To ask of God's guidance.
Praying (3): Yo' motha' fuckin' priest and everybody else in the church is doing it, just bow your head and mumble and/or close your eyes and sleep.
Honestly, I think Praying (1) is selfish, in which you are really, really, hoping that whatever happened to those 'unfortunate' people never happens to you. You will try to 'understand' them, and get out easy without ever experiancing what they have.
Well, that's me. Used to be Christian, and it was supporting to believe, until I was like 10. Now I'm athiest, and although it's alot more raw, atleast I'm not a total fucking moron (lulz, they is fun 2 troll)

I love that I'm the .00000000001% of religious folks who find this shit humorous because I don't flip out at what atheists believe in. I don't go to church, I don't read a book that just is sooo boring, I don't 'give' to a bunch of stuffy ass people who use favortism based on what is donated and who kisses who's ass (if you didn't get that, it's the 'church.)
I just march to my own drum, I'd rather be a good person because I set myself up for that then a 'divine' person is condemming (spelling?) me for what I have done.
I think this is hilarious as hell!
It's like speaking to a wall, so that's why when everyone else is praying, I literally pick up the bible and start talking to it.

Thank you! I only go to my youth group cause they have food and it's the only time I can see my friends But I keep my mouth shut most of the time.
I'm one of those...nondenominationals? Idk...that's what my dad said XD
I'm a damn free spirit! I am certainly not bound by some book that is even more boring then Twilight and Harry Potter (sorry if you're a fan of those series..es?)
But, you're welcome!

I've always considered praying to be akin to meditation, as long as the person doesn't go about it in a selfish manner only asking for things that benefit themselves.

For many people it is a one sided conversation, they never let anyone else get a word in. Whether it is in prayer or regular life. I suppose to really understand prayer and to get something from it you have to understand that sometimes there is nothing for them to say cause you already knew the answer. and for the rest of the time well, you just have to learn to listen.

meditation is the same as praying... the only reason it's a one sided conversation is if we dont shut up enough to listen...

i will probably get in trouble for this but i like this quote for explaining god.
"The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully."

well one could argue that it's easier to be swept by the river's current than try to go across it... so if you give up trying to communicate, and just go with the flow... why bother you?

Well, there's nothing to do about it; religion, for me, always was a source of fear.
All I did was to save myself from the fear.

I hear you. Believe me, I hear you...
It's just, one day I discovered I was trying to do the right thing and usually getting pummeled for it. It's easier to give up on doing the right thing most of the time and just looking out for #1... then you don't get pummeled so much. It's funny how the universe works that way. The more good you try to do, the more crap you get...
But... not doing good just to make things easier- also sucks...
When fear hits you, any time fear hits you (not the kind that saves your skin from falling off a cliff or drinking poison) you really need to take a look at it. Fear and excuses keep you stuck. Alanis Morisette has a great song about that. Probably several great songs.
All I'm saying in the long run is fear sucks. When people practise religeon out of fear or do the "right thing" out of fear, they might as well not do it at all. Tell the fear to fuck off, now... that's when you're getting somewhere... lol
