Description In the age of fiction, there are many times when humanity is guarded from destruction by only an elite few. But what if they were to face each other?

Imperial Guard: The Imperial Guard is the primary fighting force of the Imperium, without it, Mankind would surely perish. While not as widely praised as the Space Marines, the Guard possesses the courage and the manpower to face and annihilate the enemies of the Emperor across the galaxy whether they be ferocious Tyranids, or the demonic forces of Chaos itself.

UNSC: The United Nations Space Command is a military government with an army of elite marines and legendary Spartans who have defended the human race from invasions of both the Covenant and the Flood. No matter how unnumbered or outmatched, the forces of the UNSC have safeguarded mankind against total annihilation.

Now the defenders of mankind for two very different fictions will raise their guns once more against an all to human opponent. They have fought and bled and died across the stars for their race, but only one can reign supreme! Will the will of the Emperor guide the Guard to victory? Or will the might of the United Nations Space Command prove superior? Ready your weapons, and don't fire until you see the whites of their eyes! Now tell me, dear viewer, who shall live to fight another day! Tell me--

WHO! IS! DEADLIEST!

(Disclaimer: Just to be clear, these two combatants were created / are owned by people far more creative / wealthier then me. I have mde this, not for profit, but in the hopes of encouraging spirited discussion among fans. Please support the combatants official series.Thank you, that is all).

" It is a relatively unimpressive weapon when compared to other weapons in the Imperium, but is still capable of cleanly severing limbs or piercing the power armour of a Space Marine (but only through a vulnerable spot in the armour)"

when your enemies wield guns that rapid fire tank rounds, dark matter and ionic pulses, in additon to wearing armor that shrugs off those prevously mentioned weapons, your lasgun would be a flashlight in comparison. Against the shitty unsc assault rifles the lasguns are far better. If the lasguns are called flashlights in 40k, assault rifles would likely be waterguns. good for spraying, and not much else.

Lasguns are superior but UNSC weapons are still pretty powerful. I mean ARs that fire 7.62x51mm FMJ rounds with good accuracy and fast ROF aren't really weak.

How many units in each army here? If we're going all in, the IG has an insanely overwhelming numerical advantage against the UNSC. At that point, the Guard can leave all their tanks-the-size-of-houses at home and just drown the UNSC in their bodies and blood. If we tone it down and say like 100 vs 100, each side gets to use whatever weapons they have access to, then it's a lot easier on the UNSC. If you wanted to go 100 guardsmen vs. 100 marines, then I give it to the guardsmen, because they're infinitely more badass and ballsy than any other infantrymen I have ever seen in any medium. I can't give the UNSC any ground here. If you decided to go with 100 guardsmen vs. 100 spartans, then the battle becomes hilariously one-sided in the favor of the spartans. If you kick it up all the way and make it 100 spartans vs. 100 baneblades, then that, good sir, would be insanely awesome, and I would pay to see that happen.

Anyway, I'm not going to pull my usual asshat 40k fan deal here and simply say the UNSC would be instantly defeated because 40k is a much more advanced and metal series. I have a lot of respect for the UNSC, and they are humanity's heroes just as much as the Guard. However, I'm rooting for the Imperial Guard the entire fight, because they are, at least in my opinion, the ballsiest soldiers in fiction, ad they've been knocking down upstarts like the UNSC since the 80s. Ave Imperator!

Badass and ballsy would actually be a bad thing in a 100 vs 100 matchup. The UNSC is more likely to be victorious in an even match, because they are simply better structured and have more training. Of course, that is just assuming an average guardsmen regiment is used. If you just used an average regiment from some world somewhere in say Segmentum Solar then they would likely be undertrained conscripts given a basic rundown of tactics and orders, unless they're mostly veterans. On the other hand, if you have something like the 1000th Cadian Shock Troops, then they would likely be able to easily beat back UNSC marines.

In short, victory depends heavily on the specifics.

Wow what a Matchup, though I do have to say the UNSC has a huge advantage of the IG, as much as I like Warhammer my money on the Spartans which is can give a space marine a run for their money, not to mention the fact that UNSC has far much more structured military and is not afraid of using alien technology or enlisting alien allies, not even excluding the fact that the IG breaks it self down in religion, suspicion and paranoia and kill themselves as much as their enemies. So yeah UNSC all the way

I think the UNSC wins. They have all the training, plus spartans which are basically cyborgs.

The Imperial Guard is ATLEAST 56 billion troops though, probably 20 billion more, that means, at a minimum, there is a single guardsman for every man, woman, and child in the Halo universe, they would be so fucked.

What are you on about? Where did you get that number? How do you know the UNSC doesn't have that many? Why would the numbers make any difference when the UNSC straight up out-does the Imperial Guard at everything else?

Someone did the math and just counting the Hive-worlds, the Imperial Guards as at least 6 732 billion millions troopers at anyone times. So, yea.
