Description Idea is mine, though based on the Tournament of Mortals.

Alright have you heard the one about the wizard and the dragon who--- Oh. Oh you have... Um... OH! How about the one with the Spartan and the Dragon! You haven't? Good.

Kratos: A former Spartan general, Kratos briefly held the position of God of War, before discarding it and going on a killing spree that claimed the lives of nearly every Olympian deity he could get his hands on.

Alduin: The Bringer of Darkness and the Eater of Worlds, Alduin is the God of Destruction, capable of speaking great words of power to terrifying effect. He is often followed by his undead dragon army, eager to destroy the world and consume its denizens.

Now The Ghost of Sparta will face the Mightiest Dragon in mortal combat! Magic Weapons will go against Dragon Spells, and brutal ferocity from both sides will leave both combatants bloody and worn. However, only one can win, and it's up to us to decide who, if we ever want to find--

THE DEADLIEST MORTAL!

Finally, in a classic 'To the Victor Goes the Spoils', after you pick a winner, pick something for them to take from the loser. It may be something as simple as a piece of equipment, to something as complex as a power. I'm just curious what you all would say.

(Disclaimer: Just to be clear, these two combatants were created / are owned by people far more creative / wealthier then me. I have made this, not for profit, but in the hopes of encouraging spirited discussion among fans. Please support the combatants official series. Thank you, that is all).

Kratos may be able to destroy alduin's dragon form

I feel as if Alduin does not belong in Death Battles as no one but the Dragonborn can beat him, it is destined.

Kratos does not have a way to kill Alduin.

Please, most of the monsters Kratos bumps into could kick Alduin's ass. He never displays anything near the power the lore makes him out to have, the only reason the player can't beat him with Dragonrend is because he's labeled as a plot critical NPC and therefor can't be damaged, without that, he isn't that much stronger than the high level dragon enemies in the main game and only packs a couple of shouts they don't use.
The main reason everybody believes he's so powerful is because of some vague prophecy, and Elder Scrolls lore is known for being vague, inconsistent, and to outright contradict itself from one game to another, so unless somebody can show something indicating he actually has that supposed end of the world power, he's little more than a glorified pterodactyl. And if somebody decides to bring up Miraak supposedly blowing up islands, again, it something we're told happened without any real proof it did.

that's becasue his father Akatosh took away most of his powers when he was fighting dragonborn he was at 1/1000 of his POWER and SIZE

You have any proof of that, because again, unreliable Elder Scrolls lore.

I have red the lore the entire lore in the game and outside of it and Alduin can't be slayed by anyone even someone as powerful as Kratos except the Dragonborn

Saying Alduin can only be killed by the Dragonborn is entering the No Limits Fallacy and that he can't be killed by the Anti-Monitor.

And again you are relying on Elder Scrolls lore which has been known to contradict itself. Not to mention Alduin doesn't do anything all that impressive in the game proper. The only reason you can't kill him without using Dragonrend is because the game has him listed as a plot critical NPC until you do, making him immune to any attack on him. His supposed invincibility is just the game mechanics keeping you from killing him.

So you don't feel Kratos will have much problem taking him down?

How will Kratos counter his flight? Or his dragon-shouts?

And if Kratos wins, what would you give him from Alduin as a reward?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GodDragonKing In reply to ScarecrowsMainFan [2014-10-21 00:10:45 +0000 UTC]

Counter flight, use the wings he has. The dragon-shouts, Alduin doesn't use anything other than a few direct attacks, and they're nothing special compared to stuff Kratos has already gotten hit with and survived.
No idea what he would take as a reward. Can't really think of anything Alduin has that would be that useful.

Alduin's Ethereal form maybe immortal since it takes a Dragonborn to kill it for good, but I doubt that even Alduin's excuse of a scaly-armored hide that can easily be penetrated with an Iron sword could withstand against devastating assaults by the Blades of Chaos.

So even though Alduin can't die, he still won't be able to deal with a being capable of killing gods so there's no point on facing him again without ending up dying again.

The gods Kratos killed were weak as hell. They were barely continent or even island busters.

But he can still be beat up like another dragon can, and compared most of the monsters Kratos has fought, he's woefully unimpressive.

Alduin. Unfortunately for Kratos, Alduin can only be killed by the Dragonborn wielding the dragonrend shout while in Sovngarde.

Yeah, that specific.

And it is hinted he was not actually killed, since his soul was not absorbed.

UniqueSn0wFlake [2013-10-16 10:33:52 +0000 UTC]

That's a tough call! Though I like Kratos much more, most of the power really sides with Alduin given the fact that he doesn't need weapons to fight, has a tactical advantage over land and air, and even can alter the field based on what shout he uses (though he's displayed very few even when in a life or death situation).
Then I remembered that Kratos actually has some mind-blowingly powerful capabilities.
Since they'd likely face each other in a world without Hades and Sovngarde, Alduin would be considerably weaker without the fuel of raw souls to eat. In fact, he'd likely be weaker than you meet him at his weakest in Skyrim since even then he'd been snacking on physical manifestations of souls. Kratos, on the other hand, has taken on creatures and gods much more powerful than Alduin (at least at the points you meet him in Skyrim). Even when he's had his soul nibbled on, been impaled on the Greek gods' "most powerful weapon", and smashed by titans like a fly, he just gets angrier and comes back even harder (at one point, he even channeled his anger to infinitely fuel his titan-powered flames).
If there's still any doubt, before Ares, Kratos was already well above normal mortal limits, seeking to become stronger at any chance he could get, thus making him a well respected (and feared) general who would lead his armies into battle, and later, actually become to main target of the gods' attack plans.
Alduin, though insanely powerful, is not a god, though he relishes in how many believe he is the direct offspring of Akatosh, or even Akatosh himself. His inflated ego separates his attention away from the dragonborn and any other warriors who could even banish him, leaving the element of surprise used against him more often than he uses it.
Though Alduin is greatly feared, he does little more than what the average dragon can do when in battle. His trump card appears to be raising the dead, but even then, he raises them, says "hi", then flies away to chew on more goodies while his freshly raised brothers get sent to their graves again by someone who could really just take them down with a basic bow and arrow (though that's just not as fun as blasting twelve super-powered poisonous arrows in slow time for maximum overkill).
Even if their respective worlds beyond death were in play, Kratos has literally climbed back out of Hades at least three times and more powerful. Alduin is rumored to only be able to die at the hands of a dragonborn... But isn't Alduin the one bringing everyone back? Even if he brought himself back, Kratos has went through every stage of life and death to demolish the very being of nearly every god and titan.
The battle might take a while, but Kratos would get the job done. Give him all of his toys, and we've got a very short battle.

Kratos has better Close Range, Offensive Magical Relics, and takes the Physical X-Factors

Alduin has better Long Range, Mid Range, Hex Shouts / Necromancy, Defense, and takes the Mental, Psychological and Energy Potential X-Factors.

They Tie In: Pre-Battle and Preparation X-Factor

Conclusion: Alduin wins

Kratos is gonna win this. As much as I like Alduin, I really can't see how he would be able to hold a good enough advantage here. Kratos would tear into him as soon as the dragon lands.

I actually lean Alduin. He's resistant to magic, especially elemental based, and his words of power can be spammed, unlike Kratos' magic. Manipulating the weather and summoning zombie dragons, I cast my vote on Alduin.

Alduin, due to lore reasons. Unless Kratos is Dragonborn.

this one actually happened, and alduin won. His flight and long range hit and run attack overcame the predominately close ranged kratos. Alduin ended up eating kratos in the end and spitting out parts of his chewed up corpse.

I figured as much, that's why I bet on the dragon.

Did anyone ever write a battle between them? (I'm guess someone must have given the 'eaten and spit out' line). If so, can you send it to me in a note or something? I'd love to read that.

Zande-147 In reply to ScarecrowsMainFan [2012-10-01 18:25:21 +0000 UTC]

it wasn't much of a battle, just bits an piece shown here in there. The main focus of that writing was the larger overall plot of the TOM, something about the ultimate army and a "champion" of some sorts.

Zande-147 In reply to ScarecrowsMainFan [2012-10-03 04:03:54 +0000 UTC]

So far we know:
He is creating the ultimate army, mixing qualities of the best soldiers from multiple universes like space marines and sontarans. there is an "inner war" in which a massive conflict has engulfed many of the universes that the TOM contestants are from. there is a "champion" who may or may not be some sort of super fast black trench coated being that alucard encountered. The army seeths with evil. The portal master is basically trying to take over the mulitverse, and he wants dr. strange to join him. Very interesting, though we'll have to see how it all unfolds.

He'd need to lure Alduin to Aetherius, thats the only place Alduin can be destroyed. The other trick would be to get a Dragon born to Dragonrend shout him, he can't be harmed otherwise, even with weapons of a divine or daedric nature.
