Hello! I have seen your wig rooting tutorial and I have been following it. I have a question! The moment crystal glue that you use to glue the hairs on the inside, to prevent them from pulling out, doesn't make the wig cap hard, not allowing it to enter the head of the doll? Thank you!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

scargeear In reply to sulyia [2018-07-23 08:03:45 +0000 UTC]

Thank you for trying out my tutorial! The cap is semi-hard, like, it holds its shape but can be bent easily, so even if your doll's head is wide at the back and is more narrow at the front and sides you'll be able to put the wig on.

How would you do this if you wanted to make them have bangs?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

scargeear In reply to guardiiisms [2018-06-01 21:58:50 +0000 UTC]

It's the kind of design that is good when you can't cover the front line with bangs. I.e. the wig with bangs is 100 times simpler to make.

scargeear In reply to Chriswao [2017-09-30 18:24:01 +0000 UTC]

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Chriswao In reply to scargeear [2017-10-16 19:58:38 +0000 UTC]

выглядит пока вот так flic.kr/p/Ygq9qA

scargeear In reply to Chriswao [2017-10-18 09:37:23 +0000 UTC]

Chriswao In reply to scargeear [2017-10-18 12:22:27 +0000 UTC]

scargeear In reply to Chriswao [2017-10-18 19:42:28 +0000 UTC]

Брала в разное время на dollmore.net и на dollyhair.com.

Shisaichi-Chan [2017-06-15 20:31:37 +0000 UTC]

It's great. Thank you very much for the tutorial.

I would like for some time to make wigs to my dolls, but I have a question: How do you make the wigcap (the base of the wig) is "hard"? Because I have not understood with what the tulle adheres or what uses for it in the other tutorial (I left the impression that I only put it, but I know that does not seem possible).
I also wonder if the hair does not go out by not tying them in any way, when combing it for example Do not glide?

I apologize for my bad English, maybe that's why I have not understood perfectly, I speak Spanish ...

I would also like to ask, if my doll has a cap made of cilicona so that the wigs do not slip (or I think it is for that, I am quite new to the hobby) Should I make the base with him or would I enter even if I do without him?

Thank you very much, again.

scargeear In reply to Shisaichi-Chan [2017-06-18 19:01:47 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much!

Well, it's the polyurethane glue that makes the wig cap stiff. 3-4 layers of tulle + a generous amount of glue on each layer = stiff cap. More, the glue prevents the cap from sliding. It's not as good as silicone, but the tight fit helps a lot, and if you still have issues you may add a thin layer of hot glue (the same stuff that is used for joints hot gluing) near the edges of the cap from the inside.

It depends on the fiber type how good it holds in the wig cap. When I used Saran hair it were literally the everlasting wigs that I could wash as many times as I wanted and comb roughly (I don't pull on my own hair that hard). The wig from this tutorial is still like new and undergoes regular full length brushing.
Though when I used a cheap heat resistant fiber from Aliexpress (it was actually a hair extension tail, costed me something $6-8, looks very nice though and holds perm curls like dream), I was able to pull some hairs. If there are knots they should be uncombed gently, and some hairs can fall off during brushing, but nothing serious.
Of course, each portion of the hairs inserted should be generously covered in glue from inside. The glue fixes the tiny loops and gets in the holes made by the needle so as the hair is glued to the cap.

Hope that is clear enough. Please feel free to ask if something is still unclear.

¡Thanks you so much!
Are you very nice. Is perfectly clear.
I know I'm new in the BJD world, I'm sorry for the stranged questions, and thanks so much for answer me. Realy.
I feel grateful that she took the trouble to do so. You do a wonderful job, admirable, maybe that's why I've "taken the free" a little to ask him, and I'm sorry, but thank you.

Synthaya [2017-04-12 13:43:04 +0000 UTC]

I made a wigcap from stockings, rooted a part (1x1cm) and glued it from the inside. A really thick layer. Still I pulled out all hair very easily, when the glue was dried.
I used waterproof woodglue, I used it for every craft and its really good.
Do you know why it happened?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

scargeear In reply to Synthaya [2017-04-13 18:56:21 +0000 UTC]

What hair do you use? I never had this issue with Saran, but some kinds of a heat resistant hair are pulled out relatively easily.
I never used woodglue for the wigs though. I use it for my furniture, as it's not elastic enough to my taste. That could be a problem, because polyurethane glues fill in the thinnest pores, while PVA based glues are not that good.

Great tutorial, and amazing work!

I'm curious if you think Alpaca Suri hair would work for this type of wig? I really like how it looks on dolls and I want to try making a lace wig. Or would it be better for me to get some kind of synthetic fiber instead? If so, what type of fiber would you recommend?

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

wikkychu In reply to rosarosi [2017-03-29 04:40:03 +0000 UTC]

I was thinking that too. I have a bunch of fiber, short and long that I think I will try.

scargeear In reply to rosarosi [2017-01-29 22:31:16 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much!
If it's long enough and strong enough to withstand pulling through the wig cap - why not? I never worked with Alpaca Suri so I can't guarantee anything.
I use mostly Saran or Kanekalon. Nylon is also OK.

What size head is the BJD in the example photos? I would love to try this on my first BJD, but she has a 16.5cm head and I'm not sure it would look as natural on a little head, what do you think?

scargeear In reply to Zigadooz [2016-03-24 09:34:54 +0000 UTC]

The head is 19.5 cm in circumference, so please don't be afraid, this technology would look pretty the same on MSD dolls too!
