Sorry if this seems stupid but...what does it mean by "fiber"? is that the hair? again sorry if this is a dumb question.

It looks so amazing I wanna give it a try.
But how much hair do you need to make one wig? x_x I can't decide how much nylon hair I ought to buy.

Thank you!
It took two patches of saran, about 30-32 grams each, and a bit still left. Din't know how much nylon would it take...

Vassa07 In reply to scargeear [2015-01-12 17:11:36 +0000 UTC]

Amazing tutorial and result!! Have you kept track of about how long one of these wigs takes to create? Very work intensive indeed, especially sorting out those hairs, but the results are well worth it!

scargeear In reply to my-immortals [2014-12-12 08:41:43 +0000 UTC]
Thank you very much!
Let me think... Making a wig cap - about 2 hrs or more (consider the time when the glue should dry so it's not fast). And it took about 3 weeks to do the rooting, like that: do some homework - root for 1 hr - do something again - root for 1.5 hrs, etc. Less time spent on the working days, as I had only evenings, and more time spent on the days off. And as I had a deadline I was really determined to end the task in 3 weeks.
My advice is to root in portions, because if you'll root for a whole day your eyes could say you good-bye.

my-immortals In reply to scargeear [2014-12-14 04:03:53 +0000 UTC]
That is a LONG time rooting my dear!! I could imagine that it would make you go cross eyed!!
I'm going to try this technique in combination with the laying on of hair. I don't know if it will work, as you might be able to see the transition. This would be nice just to make a part area more realistic and not have to commit to the whole head, but we'll see if it works.
Again thanks for the idea!! I tried knotting like a human wig in the past, but it was too out of scale and looked bad. I guess for shorter hairdos, you could use longer strands of hair and make a few stitches with one needle full of hair and then cut the loops.... Just thinking out loud...
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
scargeear In reply to my-immortals [2014-12-14 08:02:49 +0000 UTC]
Yes, it took a lot of time, but I was careful and checked my eyes condition no harm was done
I also think that rooting only the front area of the wig and gluing wefts on the rest mey give a nice result, especially if the wefts are done by my technology - because they're so thin and flat.
Knotting on a doll looks gross, indeed((
>>you could use longer strands of hair and make a few stitches with one needle full of hair and then cut the loops....
- nice idea, could save a lot of time!

my-immortals In reply to scargeear [2014-12-17 05:21:32 +0000 UTC]
Yes, when you make the wefts airy and thin, it might work well, like you said. I was also looking at human sized lace front wigs today, and they have a flesh colored "scalp" only where the rooting is done. The rest of the wefting is sewn onto a dark wig cap to match the hair color. I'm going to give it a try!!
Thank you so much again for the great ideas!!
By the way, in America, (as a replacement for the Moment Crystal), Gorilla Glue and Liquid Fusion are clear urethane glues that are available... I know you're not answering those questions anymore, but some will probably still ask *sigh*. You can add that to your journal.

scargeear In reply to my-immortals [2014-12-17 16:11:40 +0000 UTC]
That info on the human lace wigs is quite interesting, because those wigs I saw in video tutorials were laced completely - but it were custom created theatrical and movie wigs, so I believe that hint with lacing only a front part was implemented to make mass-produces things cheaper.
I'll post your valuable info on polyurethane-based glues to the deviation description so everybody could find it easily

Sorry for the late reply... been off of DA for a while! Glad you can use the polyurethane information!
I think you are right about the mass production wigs, but if it works and looks good, what a time saver!!

Question, where would I find Thin Tulle Fabric and Moment-Crystal?
Still looking into getting my doll (really just anxiously awaiting Christmas money lol) But I want to make sure I can get everything to make his wig too.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
scargeear In reply to AngelOfYaoi [2014-12-10 07:59:03 +0000 UTC]
Ask Google about tulle fabric - and you'll see what kind of fabric is it.
Then go to your local fabric store and look for it.
You probably should find a substitiute for Moment Crystal glue, as Henkel is a huge world-famous chemical concern it surely sells something very similar but just under another name.
Oh God... I try to describe my materials as best as I can, with photos, I write every time "look for a substitute, try what is best for you" and people keep me asking where they can buy the same materials. I'm sorry, but as I buy most of the stuff locally I just can't provide that info.

Another stunning tutorial and resulting wig! Just wow! I have a new Doll just incoming and haven't found a single wig online that I though fitting and just then you come around with this beautiful, detailed tutorial! I will most definitly try it out, as time consuming as it will be
Just one question ... do you happen to have picture of the glue you used? Henkel is a company I'm familiar with here in Germany but if they sell this glue here, it's under a different name ... maybe seeing the bottle would help already The one I use so far has usually brought me mixed/unsatisfactory results for the wigcaps so I'm grasping for straws here ...
Thank you once more for you great and dedicated work within this community! So amazing and it's always such a pleasure to look at your work, be it doll sculpts, wigs, clothing or else! !

Thank you very much! I'm really happy when my tutorials are helpful and my work is appreciated!
That glue is shown in my previous tutorial where the wig cap making is shown: Tutorial: anatomical wig with defined hair line
There definitely should be the analog in Germany, as Henkel is a German company. It should be a transparent polyurethane-based waterproof glue suitable for leather, fabric, paper, PVC, glass, etc. The one I use is really universal.
