Hello Scargeear, this tutorial is impressive well done and very helpful... I have two questions.

1. I bought a bunch of hair wefts some are synthetic and some are human hair... can I use then to make this type of wigs?

2. When  this type of wig is done... who this one stays in the dolls head?  this one will fall out easy?

Thank you
George

Thank you, George!
Answers:
1. I recommend synthetic wefts, as human hair is mostly too thick and resilient for a dollie wigs. But you may try))
2. When the wig cap is made as it shown in my other tutorial it fits the head very precisely and stays on its own. As BJD wigs have to be removable that's usually enough. Some owners use 2-side sticky tape, or a thin velcro, though in this case you need to add it before making the wig cap, otherwise the wig won't fit.

This is an amazing tutorial, something that I was thinking about for a long time to do myself, but couldn't figure out how to do the edge and if I can do it on smaller head like Monster High doll. I definitely need to try.

Спасибо за туториал! Отличная техника для настоящих кукломанов .

Thank you very much! I know people adapted this tutorial for 1/4 dolls, so it's most likely possible for MH too

is it possible to use VOILE instead of TULLE or is voile to small and a pain in the ass.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

scargeear In reply to coconut-eater [2015-09-29 08:40:42 +0000 UTC]

Maybe, maybe not. It highly depends on the quality of the fabric (thickness, number of threads per inch, etc.). Tulles are different, voiles are different either. Most likely you need to try by yourself and to find out the best fabric for your doll head cap.

i love this tutorial~ thanks for sharing this)) i have a question though. i'm gonna do this, but i want little 'thinner' hair. would it still look look if i used two hairs instead of three?

munsikka In reply to munsikka [2015-09-20 07:29:06 +0000 UTC]

okay, thank you!)) and sorry for bothering you, but what do you use to do the hairstyles? i mean, what do you use to keep them in place?

scargeear In reply to munsikka [2015-09-20 07:05:37 +0000 UTC]

Thanks a lot! Yes, you can use patches of only two or even a single hair, it just may take more work. You'll see the thickness by yourself after rooting several square centimeters

This is an excellent tutorial! I'm so glad I've found it. I've been having a heck of a time finding a wig maker for my very tiny girl- I think I'll just do one myself! I see quite a bit, so I've got most of these items on hand. ( except hair..) <3

HenriLeveque [2015-04-23 19:10:08 +0000 UTC]

Thank you for both of your wig making tutorials. They have inspired me to attempt to make one of my own. I do have a question regarding the glue to use. Does it need to be a polyurethane glue? I'm having a little trouble finding one and the ones I have found are somewhat like the colour of honey. I don't know if they dry clear or remain that colour. I couldn't tell from the photos on the tutorials whether the colour of the wig cap was the result of the colour of the tulle or the colour of the glue (or both). So do you think it would be okay to use one of the honey coloured glues or could I use something like a PVA glue that I've seen mentioned in other (significantly less impressive) tutorials? Or perhaps even create a silicone wig cap? Also, should the finished wig cap be hard or flexible? I assume flexible since I would have to get a beading needle to penetrate it, but I know it's going to take a long time to make so I want to make sure the wig cap is as good as it can be before I spend hours and hours threading hairs through it.

scargeear In reply to HenriLeveque [2015-04-24 05:29:44 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much!
Look, if you really can't find the clear polyurethane glue you may ask for a glue intended for leather, maybe this will help...
I buy beige tulle intentionally so it matches the head skintone, and the glue tint doesn't affect it. If there is no option to find a clear glue just use whatever you have, but it might be visible on the blonde hair.
I don't like PVA because it's not water-resistant, and also it leaves a white residue on the hair and the wigcap over time, so it's better to use a yellowish polyurethane glue, imho.
The wigcaps I make are flexible, but not stretchy, I use about 4 layers of a thin tulle. The more tulle layers - the stiffer the wigcap gets, the thicker your tulle - the stiffer it gets. Actually it's not that crucial to make the wigcap stiff or flexible, just don't make it too thin.
If something is unclear please ask more. I see that you've studied the tutorial thoroughly, and your questions are well thought out.

This is an absolutely gorgeous wig! Wonderful job!
Quick question though: How would you go about making bangs on the wig using this process? I do like the look you did but I'd love the option to have bangs if desired.

scargeear In reply to LostEnWonderland [2015-04-20 12:01:25 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much!
See, making the wig with bangs is much much easier, the wefts are just sewn onto the wigcap in the spiral from the bottom to the top, and then you cut the wig as you wish. There are a plenty of tutorials on that. More, most of the BJD factory wigs have bangs. My method is for those wigs that need a curved front line and high realism.

When "punching"/piercing hair into a silicone head,  you have to insert the hair at an angle for it to lay properly. For this technique, must you also sew the hair at an angle?

scargeear In reply to tevajdoll [2015-03-31 19:01:52 +0000 UTC]

No, I just comb it back or style with a hot air, and hair lays in desired direction. Never had issues.

Gemini-Astrae In reply to ??? [2015-02-14 03:17:07 +0000 UTC]

This is an amazing tutorial! Do you think it would work for short hair styles too? I want a cropped hair style that's longer on the top, but I am afraid that if I cut the fibers too short they will just spike out and look terrible. :< I will be using angora alpaca hair. Thanks!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

scargeear In reply to Gemini-Astrae [2015-02-14 07:10:14 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much! It should work for any style, just use heat-resistant fibers and style it with a hot water or hair iron
Though I don't know if angora alpaca could be properly styled...

Gemini-Astrae In reply to scargeear [2015-02-18 03:53:46 +0000 UTC]

Thank you for the tips! Oh really? I think I ordered the wrong type of hair...I ordered Angora mohair from a goat instead yesterday because I tried to work on the wig with alpaca and...the fibers are just too small! >_< I can't even thread the needle!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

scargeear In reply to Gemini-Astrae [2015-02-18 12:29:56 +0000 UTC]

Looks like that... But don't be too discouraged, as Angora goat is a beautiful hair, just for other type of wigs.
