Description This is the second of my four entries into [link] Fakemon design contest.
Polympei is derived from Polychaeta, a class of wormlike invertebrates, and Pompeii, one of the Roman cities buried in the AD 79 eruption of Mt. Vesuvius. On the whole it was inspired by a particular Polychaete species, Alvinella pompejana, a hydrothermal vent-dwelling species found in the Pacific ocean, discovered near the Galapagos islands in the 1980s. It bears a furry grey coat of chemolithotrophic bacteria; the worm feeds these bacteria with mucus secretions and the bacteria provide a degree of insulation, for A. pompejana dwells in an extreme temperature gradient. The head end floating in water at 22 °C and the tail end buried in the vent column, exposed to water temperatures as high as 80°C, one of the highest heat tolerances of any known animal.
Of course Polympei had to be cutened up a little from the real worm, so it has a baby-blue eye to stare at you with. :3

I was thinking this was going to be based on the Mongolian death worm lol. Amazing design. Those colors are just fantastic.

I'd love to do a mongolian death worm, but I wouldn't be able to meet the standards of mongolian death worm mons that already exist D:
Glad you like the colors though

well glad they still got accepted. it wouldn't have been too hard to make them j-pegs anyway.

Turns out the contest ends at midnight PST on january 4th. Why not enter yourself? there are real prizes involved! mostly plushies I think.
Which sort of makes it a moot point for you I suppose, since you can and do make your own plushies.

xD unfortunately I'm a slow artist so I doubt I'd be able to come up with a good Pokemon idea by then. Though oddly as it is I am working on a monster design right now (the mega form of my digimon Sciencemon which is going to be honestly the most complex overall monster design I've ever made).

I thought Madsciencemon WAS the mega form! how could he possibly get more beastly than he is now?!

...can we expect armor forms at all? :3

actually his last evolution is pretty different from all his other stages up to now

Close but not exactly, there is something armoured about it but you'll just have to wait and see.

Glad you like!
I get the feeling though that what I've drawn for all of them was a mistake; the contest rules never said that all the entries look related, yet I feel that this was such an obvious thing to do that they neglected to mention it :S
