Description
This is part 1. It includes making an armature and sculpting the unicorn.PRESS DOWNLOAD FOR THE ACTUAL TUTORIAL PDF. It is long.
Part 2 is here: [link]
It includes baking, painting, and hairing.
This tutorial has been the death of me. Putting it together was fine, took about 5 hours, but was fun.
Finding a way to change the word document into pdf, woah boy. After 2 hours of searching, downloading crap, etc, I finally got it. Then DA said the file was too big, so I had to redownload itinto 2 parts.
Dang.
Anyhow, I was asked to do this tutorial, and at first was reluctant since =Indigo-Ocean already has a really good one. However, I figured if people want to make a horse, it's good to have different techniques to look at.
I tried to focus more on sculpting facial details, and not so much on the body. I also went into baking and color painting and such, so hopefully a few people find this helpful.
Sorry I do not have this online somewhere for those that do not have pdf readers. (downloading a reader takes a few minutes, if you're really desperate)

Awesome tutorial! This is just what I looked for, but now I need a place to buy eyes..
Where can I buy it, and does it work ok with plane, round glasspearls?

Thanks! Glass beads are fine, and pearls could work. Just as long as they're class, because plastic would melt also *CozmicDreamer sells eyes. She has tons of different kinds, that's who I buy eyes from.

Great! I wouldn't try with plastic x)
And 1 more question, do you like.. bake you'r sculptures in the same oven as you cook food in? I heard it was some toxic fumes realesed when baking..

I don't think anything toxic is released from polymer clay. I used to cook them in the same oven we used for food, but most ovens are gas ovens which heat up fast and bake unevenly, so it's not as good for clay as a convection oven. So I bought a little convection oven and now I just use that

Haehae, I ask a lot of questions x)
I think this will be the last one
Is there really a reason for buying Super Flex? (Or something like that, that colorful clay)
Cuz I have found one of the few shops that sells Sculpey products in Norway, Wich sold Sculpey super flex, but not Super Sculpey..
Then I found another shop, wich sold S Sculpey, but not Sculpey super flex..
Then I was like "Omg, what should I pick!? Thats gonna be like 20 dollars in shipping!"

if you have to just use one for sure use super sculpey. The reason I use super flex for the legs and ears is because it's a bit rubbery and has give to it, so if you drop the sculpture it's less likely to break. However because super sculpey is still polymer clay, it does have a bit of give to it. Just for selling them on ebay and mailing them I like to have them be less fragile and I totally don't mind answering questions, feel free to ask me all you want lol
