Description

Alien VS. Predator

front view

I made this scene for a client's request before the movie came out.
The reference was limited due to the confidential of movie. And the concept drawing was a bit rough. It was designed for mass production, not for one of a kind.
So the details were not too much, also need to think of possible molding.
It was a nightmare to a sculptor that searched in the dark without good reference.
But it looks ok to the client and passed the approval of 20th Century Fox.

Alex Liao

13 inches, final product: polyresin

The schedule was really tight during this sculpting, so I didn't have enough time making the tutorial for this scene. Otherwise, I'd love to show how they can be done.

So much detail^-^ How long did it take to make that? Are you using any type of skeleton or is it clay right through? Really impressive work!

It's totally Super Sculpey all the way. It took me around 10 working days for this 13 inches sculpture. And thank for your compliment!! ~__~

That's cool! Is it soft when you work with and then you "cook" it or something to get it solid? You're welcome btw

sculptor101 In reply to Thelemiic [2013-12-20 12:14:38 +0000 UTC]

Yes. it is. But I don't do it all at once and bake, I make partially finished and bake first, so I can fold it in my hand to sculpt other area. That's why my sculpture gets more details. You may see my works usually show different colors in some areas.

Thanks for your compliment, both of you!! It was really hard to do in this complicated position and also need to consider parting joints...

The base you have seen is actually hollow beneath. If you see my tools tutorial, there are items rolling pin and round cutter in use for this base.  The surrounding low relief, I made one piece and cast a plaster mold to duplicate in several. put baby powder for mold release. If you show me how your base going to be, I may tell you how to calculate and how it can be done.

thanks for that Alex.     I just want to make the sort of generic round display bases you see on statues like Bowen designs  or Sideshow. I know they get machined or printed but I don't have access to that. So, if I can build em in sculpey it will match the sculpt and look nice and Professional.

Do you have clay gun? I can show you how and it's fun yet beautiful. You can make it like the Rome poles easily. You know me, I only show how easy it can be done!!! Will be a great tutorial! ^^
