Description
Another photo of the tiny garter snake (genus Thamnophis) I found at Itasca state park. Chronologically it was taken after the previous two. I released my grip on the snake to see whether it would try to fling itself off my hand. Instead it coiled itself tightly around my fingers, while lashing the tip of its tail in agitation. It peered at the camera from behind my ring finger long enough for me to get this adorable shot.Related content

I think the reason it wrapped around your fingers is because it was sunning, as you said, and your hands are very warm, correct? Well, because it had probably not absorbed all of the heat it needed, it thought that you were some kind of heat pad- basically just a kind of heat source, and it wanted it, and so it coiled around your hand. Does that seem accurate?

The little fellow was probably scared as hell that such a huge thing (no offense) picked it up.

Usually snakes are able to recognise their owner through hand movement, size and textures so i don't think he was scared, just curious at the massive camera above him! Still the cutest thing ever though!
