Description
Gary Larson summed it up nicer in the Far Side, but I needed to make the same statement my own way. This has INFURIATED me since I was a toddler. I don't believe in any 'eye of the beholder' here: common sense dictates anyone who finds beauty in plants, flowers, birdies and fishies should be seeing the same thing in insects.Photo was listed as creative commons so I hope he doesn't mind.
I could have drawn this all better (and was originally going to draw the bug) but I'm away from my scanner and can't do this stuff as easily without going over a paper sketch.

That's possibly the most adorable bug I've ever seen, other than the peacock spider and wooly aphid

a shield bug or stink bug is generally thought disgusting for its foul odor.

Which Far Side strip(s) are you referring to that had this theme? Was it the one where an ugly woman at a pet shop was revolted by the sight of a snake, the one where some spiders used a tiny fake man to scare another spider, or another one?

The colors on that bug are fantastic!
With the exception of earwigs... I personally don't mind bugs. In fact, I think some of them are fascinating critters.

Lobster, crawfish, crabs, shrimp. All these people who think bugs are disgusting are EATING THEM ALL THE FREAKIN' TIME!! And the people who are too chicken to kill the lobster they're about to cook, they'll squish a cockroach without second thought!
The only bugs i really find gross are crane flys, the kind that look like really BIG mosquitoes. Bumblebees are adorable!! :3
... Is 'squish' a technical term?

This is like that Spongebob episode where everyone panics when there's a butterfly on the loose.
I don't have much problem with spiders and other arthropods as many people I know. Staring intently takes the edge off...
Unfortunately I have never been able to get over my apprehension towards handling earthworms completely. I know they're harmless but...

Cows have been found to be extremely intelligent. Almost all the pack and herd animals are...sheep and cattle know one another on an individual basis and form friendships and rivalries within their groups. Scientists found the least popular of the herd WOULD BE COLLECTIVELY PUSHED TO THE FRONT OF THE SLAUGHTER LINE. D:

Poor poor insects, forced to see are warped faces everytime they wander onto something weve claimed. I cant bring myself to hurt the poor thing personally, not there fault they could smell our food or were a little curious. All that fear and disgust. Quite frankly ive never been stung by anything, been bitten but that a given when you live near trees and bushes and leave your window open over night. Like bedbugs, not there fault they adapted to living in our beds, clothes etc. Sure its a little disturbing but thats a given but thats what they do.
Anyway, enough most likely slightly mispelled ranting. Love it good sir and kudos to making a slight nod to the blight that is the bumnose.

Hell, you can make pretty much ANY animal seem completely disgusting/horrifying if you think about it enough. If you're going to say bugs are gross, you might as well say puppies, bunnies, kitties and humans are gross too, it's only fair

I think insects are adorable, and, when not adorable, fascinating. I don't understand why people think they are all so ugly. This applies to spiders and slugs, too. What makes the common butterfly so much more acceptable than your average grasshopper?

That's something that's always annoyed me, too. With spiders it at least makes some kind of sense, but girls will get freaked out by obviously harmless bugs like grasshoppers and moths, which is just insane. But it was a girl who got me interested in bugs in the first place, so I shouldn't generalize.

I agree 100% and what makes me even more angry is when people say "Oh, a bug, Kill it." That bothers me so much, why is it that killing a bug is nothing, but when someone kills an intelligent creature or murders someone, everyone has a fit!! It's not right, either way you're killing the poor thing!

One time my boss told me to kill this one spider she found; I said no and she was about to kill it, but I snatched it away and ran it outside. Now if I find any bugs in/around the restaurant I have to find them refuge; it's tedious but satisfying work.
