Just use a grass brush to erase the horse layer.

You can download grass gimp brushes here on DA, you have to have a program called WinZip though to zip the brush file. If you go to youtube and type in something like "How to get brushes from deviantart onto gimp" then just watch some of those. There should be something to help you out.

I only use Photoshop Elements 8. I'm sure this idea would work for gimp as well.
