A few people were wondering how I make my art and often think I trace screencaps. This is actually how I do it.

My scanner and camera are terrible and drain all of the life out of the color in my drawings and sketches as you might have noticed. That's why I tend to clean things up digitally.

This is a sketch of one of my Living Dead Dolls, Siren.

Remember to always give proper credits... and get permission for your resources....

otherwise you can't post it here.

Well in the case of this the reference was actually a doll I own.

I think I can help. So, do you have the outlined image open in GIMP? From there you can find a "select by color" tool. It looks like a finger pointing to a red block, with a blue and green block around it. Last thing in the first row on mine. Select the color you used to outline your picture. You many have to zoom in. When you have your outline selected, either cut that and paste it into Paint, or use the reverse selection tool (should be right click, reverse/invert selection) to delete the background.

It may help to originally outline the picture in an odd color. Like using a red outline on a darker picture, or a blue one on a redder picture. It'll help GIMP select only the outline.

Hope this helped, and feel free to ask any questions

sorry but... how i erase the background?

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

WhatHappensToABook In reply to DjAzulcool [2014-02-18 23:04:16 +0000 UTC]

Either color select the outline and copy-paste that into another window, OR right click with the select tool, hover over 'select' and pick 'reverse selection'

this is confusing. I mean, I'm okay at art but, this would be very difficult to do. I'm only a student and I want to use a base.

This is just how I do it. I've been doing it like this for a very long time, so I've got the process down pretty fast now.

Sheltie-X In reply to MINECRAFTSTEVE [2013-07-04 19:51:53 +0000 UTC]

The reverse eraser is right clicking and holding, but first, you select a color. Then right click erase, then do it over and over again until the back ground you don't want is gone

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

MINECRAFTSTEVE In reply to Sheltie-X [2013-07-04 23:55:51 +0000 UTC]

That's kind of confusing. But i'll try!

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

Sheltie-X In reply to MINECRAFTSTEVE [2013-07-04 23:58:02 +0000 UTC]

It's actually really easy! You use the eye dropper and pick the paper color, then select your eraser. Hold right click and watch it disappear! Sometimes with very pixel-like backgrounds, its very hard to do.

You can try the reverse eraser trick in MS Paint. I'm not sure how to do that trick though

You can do it without GIMP, it just takes much longer to clean up.
