Screams.
Screams of pain, of sorrow and anger... the firing of guns and explosions rattling the damp and dripping walls as the seemed to close in, the darkness stretching out for what seemed like an eternity. An eternity would be just as well... for there was really no going back. The smell of rot and oil filled the Celica's head as she heaved her broken and battered body through the staled water, splashing gently at her sides as she moved slowly. What had led to this?
It was a pointless question... Shadow's entire life had led to this, and she knew it. The Carlisle's had decided to attack. Claim the lives of agents, cherry picking them one by one and luring them to secluded and dark areas, before slaughtering the cars where they stood. It was always the same. Pieces of the car would lay strewn in a wide radius, like a dark and brutal game of tug of war, where the lack of rope was made up for with a live victim.
The bodies always had the capital 'C' carved into them, deeply engraved into the hoods, a message for all to see.
They were coming.
It had kept the young Celica up at night, shaking and trembling as the nightmares poisoned her mind, the sleepless nights making the long days even harder to bear. Even Finn was becoming more deeply concerned with each passing night, eventually having to sleep in the same room as the younger car to ensure she didn't injure herself upon her abrupt awakenings. He would hold her gently and coax her back to sleep, but she wasn't the only one afraid. He felt the familiar sliver of fear sieze him with every found body. He didn't know what to do... to protect Shadow, or to take down her family, it could only be one or the other.

A rumour flew, one that Shadow had known for a long while, though had chosen not to speak of it. She had kept it through her own fear, her fear of death and of dying. It was mentioned, that the Carlisle circuit would blindly follow whoever took over from the current leaders, whether that was foul play or natural death. Everyone had the same unspoken idea, looking to the very offspring that had spent the last decade of her life training and becoming one of the best agents known. Everyone silently willed her to take what could have once been hers, and change it. Change it to something good.
That was the entire point of the invasion. Agents of all shapes, sizes and experience, descended upon the Carlisle base, cutting down all those that got in their way.

The water rippled again as she used her front tires to pull herself forward once more, unable to feel her back wheels at all. Fear still consumed her body, tense and scared, she could feel the very life that once pumped through her pipes, escape into the murky, sludge-like water, the water turning dark as her own oil seeped from her undercarriage. Her axles trembled, and finally she collapsed, her breathing laboured, body burning and numb. She didn't know how long she had been trying to get out... the sounds of the war above raged on, though it was a dying fight. The queen of the Carlisles was dead. And her successor was below in the tunnels, her own life force fading fast. It would mean the end of the era, the circuit would disband, with some luck at least.
Shadow could at least take the knowledge away that she was responsible. Responsible for the death of her own mother... having fired the deadly missile, that nearly killed them both. The fight with her mother had been long, and brutal. Though now, it was over.
For both of them.

Shadow closed her eyes as she breathed, her breaths shallow and no longer holding the vigour they once did. She felt her chassis grown, the ringing in her right side... a sign she'd lost her hearing on that side. She swallowed painfully, her eyes filling with tears.
"I'm sorry Finn..." She panted now, her sides heaving a little more.
"I know how much you don't like death... I know you've experienced too much... But I can't hold on" She breathed, her lights flickering, the shadows dancing on the walls. It was falling silent, but she didn't know if that meant the fighting was now ceasing, or if she was giving up. Either would work for her now. She had achieved her goal... there was no need for the small black car anymore.

'Shadow'

The sound seemed to call through the tunnel, gentle and transparent, so much so, it couldn't possibly have come from a real car... there was no echo, no substance.

'Shadow'

There is was again... but the tones.... the voice... it was familiar... tinged with concern and love...

"Leland" She rasped, opening her eyes a little. She was once more met by the ebony dark, though it didn't matter, she could see him. The Runwell that had saved her life all those years ago...
He seemed upset, concerned, but more peaceful than he had when he was alive. He said nothing, watching her within the depths of the dark, as her lights continued to flicker. Even he wasn't so blind as to see that... this was it.

With a smile, he held out a tire to her, regarding her with kind eyes.
'Are you ready?'

"Yes....I'm ready"

'Then come with me. Your time is over. I couldn't be more proud'

Good god this took some time.
I needed Shadow and Leland feels, so i made a small AU where Shadow doesn't outlive her mother by very long.
Finn finds her later after the war is done, and takes her back to CHROME for a burial, as she belonged nowhere else.
