Description Because Stubby guns need love too. Low axis, upper barrel weight, firing full power rounds, means big flash, but still a tack driver...

I questioned the functionality of this gun at first; but, with a minor improvement in the hammer placement, this would be the gun to own as a sidearm for all police or for self-defense for any civilian! I would definitely buy this gun if it is ever put into production! If it does, PLEASE notify me!

I know this is a very old post, but I still feel the need to point out the Chiappa Rhino, if you're not already aware of it. It looks almost exactly like this and comes in .357 Magnum.

It is strange that I should stumble across an image of such age with a post from my former account, that is nearly as old, and find a reply from some years ago, today. Hi! lol Anyhow, to reply in place of my old account, yes I have heard of the Chiappa Rhino and I find it to be a beautiful descendant of the Mateba Auto-revolver.Β

The Mateba was, indirectly, the first revolver I really took a shine to and started my love for 6 o'clock barrel revolvers (for the life of me, I can't remember the proper term at the moment); though, if I'm being perfectly honest, it was actually Vash's revolver from the anime series Trigun that started it. Anyway, the Chiappa Rhino is fairly high on a rather short list of firearms I want to own, but for what it's worth, I actually like the lines on your design better.

Oh, no, no! The art isn't mine, the GameraGX profile is! I forgot the password and the email used with it went defunct, so...yeah lol. The term your looking for, though, is low-axis barrel.Β

Whoops; I guess that's what happens when you haven't slept more than a few hours a day for a week~ Thanks! The only term that was coming to my head was "underslung" for some reason (at least, when I wasn't drawing a blank), which is something else entirely.

I actually like stubby ugly looking weapons. A weapon for combat should be as ugly as its purpose, not a work of fine art.

And you weapon is a nasty piece of stubby malice that may make anyone it's pointed at lead a more virtuous life.

Looks like the charter arms bulldog on steroids. This wouldn't happen to be a .44 special would it? Has anyone ever made a real debased barrel revolver?

Its based on much uglier revolver called the 'Nosorog' or AEK 906, but yes its designed to fire a necked down version of a .41 caliber magnum case fitting a .360 diameter round.

There have been a few debased barrel revolvers (or low axis barrels); the Nosorog, and the Mateba being some of the more recognizable examples.

I just looked at the nosorog. You're right, that thing is hideous. But that's ok, I love peculiar revolvers.

I should have guessed Mateba made one though. They have some of the strangest revolvers I've ever seen. I really like the Model 6 Unica (the autorevolver) but it's so hard to find, and I have no idea what kind of quality it would be. It's not like I actually know anyone that has any experience with Matebas to ask how their guns are.

The Model 6 is a fairly light recoiling pistol for a revolver, but that comes from two points. First its heavier than most .357s due to the incorporation of the siding front section. Second becuase the recoil absorbing action of the recoil operation method it uses.

This of course also means the Mateba is heavier, and more prone to mechanical failure than a traditional revolver in SA or DA/O. They are very well built Italian pistols, but I don't think I'd recommend to bet your life on it (unless you obsessed over it), but it would be just fine for some fairly low stress plinking.

I'm guessing you've seen Chiappa's Rhino, the last work of Mateba's creator before he passed away?

I love your work here, sir. I really wish more gun companies would experiment and push revolver design a bit more. The Rhino, despite its weaknesses and flaws, shows that the 6 o' clock barrel position does work. It's a pity we can only find such revolvers in animΓ©, hard-to-find exotic guns (Nosorogs and Matebas), or overly complicated Rhinos.

good post!, i agree - but one interesting note, the last season of Nikita on CW, they had Rhinos everywhere, it was great! & i think maybe on Almost Human, i'll have to double-check. Yes, let's see some Dardicks, Mars, Stetchkins & Gyrojets! Fun stuff, if not practical.
