The so called TIE Hyperdrive Rings and TIE Weapon Rings, also known as a TIE Hyperdrive ring, TIE Hyperdrive booster ring, or TIE Hyperspace transport ring, TIE Hyperdrive module, a TIE Weapon ring, TIE Weapon booster ring, or TIE Weapon transport ring, TIE Weapon module was a device used to achieve faster-than-light travel by starships with no onboard hyperdrive, or increase the weapon power and overall torpedo and rocket payload. Originating from the TIE Advanced x1 of Darth Vader and the later TIE Avenger, TIE/sa bomber, TIE/IN interceptor and TIE/D Defender. Inspired by some of the Jedi Starfighters and Droid Starfighters or Droid Bombers and their payload during the Clone Wars and Reconquest of the Rim. Produced by Sienar Fleet Systems for the Imperial Remnants and Warlords, it was meant to make TIE fighters more independent from Imperial capital ships, increase the survival chances of the pilot (as some even had light shields) and at the same time maximize the firepower each of these leftover Imperial pilots could wield against increasingly overwhelming odds and superior enemy numbers. It’s increased spied and agility made it a dangerous TIE variant and some rings even added additional solar panels to further boost the power output of the engines and firepower of the TIE variant. These rings surrounded the cockpit and pilot module and could be detached after they had been used to free the TIE of additional wind resistance in atmosphere and later be picked up and reused. At a cost 200,000 credits half the price of a normal upgraded or hyperspace capable TIE fighter model, meaning two could be equipped instead of one and for more multi-purpose roles as well for roughly the same price.

Besides hyperspace engines and additional reactor power (that could work independent from the TIE solar panels but could also be refilled with energy by them), they also provided an additional arsenal of four to sixteen SFS L-s9.3 laser cannons, two to eight Borstel NK-3 medium ion cannons, two to eight SFS M-g-2 general-purpose warhead launchers for a payload of four to sixteen concussion missiles, three to twelve proton torpedoes each, two to eight heavy rockets each, one to four heavy space bombs, one to four Cluster missile launch with twenty cluster missiles each each, as well as a Turbolaser ring segment that added one, two or ultimately four Turbolasers with their own small reactors to the TIE fighter. With this normal TIE fighters could be heavily upgraded to become fighter-bombers, or TIE bombers upgraded to become heavy TIE bombers without the need to build more costly and additional ship types to spare some credits. Some of it’s most feared variants like the Turbolaser, torpedo and missile variants clearly inspired by the Separatist Hyena-class bomber, the Wolf-class Bomber (Hyena-class Mark II) and the Jackal-class Bomber (Hyena-class Mark III).

Because some of the more faster, more agile and overall deadlier TIE variants still were poorly armored and shielded, often even to slippery for normal pilots to handle, those with force-sensitive abilities or outright force-users were chosen as organic pilots to stand a chance for longer operations outside suicide runs, if the Empire not outright would use droid TIE variants overall. When facing superior enemy numbers these TIE tried to use their superior, numerical weapons to defeat as many enemy fighters, bombers and even capital ships in the closest amount of time possible and sometimes the droid variants, as well as the most fanatic Imperial clones and other organic TIE pilots would even use their TIE rings to give them an additional boost for a ramming maneuver, becoming somewhat of bombs or torpedoes with their TIE themselves to inflict even further damage and losses on the enemy, once their main weapons had all been used up before. These by the Separatists, Rebels and Republic so called meteoroid TIE were a true unpredictable danger and the reason why nearly all close approaching TIE, even those wishing to surrender were shot down by own fighters and point-defense systems to limit the risk of a potential meteoroid TIE attack upon their capital ships.
