These are the Skin Texture brushes I use when I'm painting portraits to capture that epic realism! This is just an example of how awesome and simple they can be, and how much of a difference they can make!

There's many other brushes made by this guy, but I haven't had a chance to get around to trying them all out yet.

Thanks so much for this awesome skin texture tutorial.
Unfortunately, I don't think those brushes are compatible with my CS5. But, this tut really gave a lot of food for thought.

I sample a bunch of base colors off the reference/photos, then just add more shadow/highlights and ajust the color as I go

It's just a matter of getting the right tones and blending them

as a suggestion...you should (i would like to see) a tutorial on how to paint hair (as well as facial hair).
Love your work as well (giant thumbs up)

Thanks
I've been meaning to make some tutorials again! Hair would be a good one to tackle... but the brush I use is only really exclusive to Photoshop CS5, and not everyone can benefit from that

havnt you done hair in other versions in photoshop beside CS5? but really, any other tutorials would be very helpful, im still having a little difficult with adding texture to the skin on some of my paintings.

Yeah I did a bit of hair in Photoshop 7, but the results aren't nearly as good as when I use the brushes in CS5 Plus there's plenty of hair tutorials out there that use the same techniques for earlier Photoshop.
I think people would probably benefit more with a tut on how I do facial hair
