Your advice is fantastic, the only thing that's never quite worked for me is working on one thing that doesn't look right forever and ever because it's time-consuming and moving on to something else may actually give you visual aid as to how to fix the thing that looks off to you.

But I finally figured out what I've been doing wrong all my life.
I forgot the chinchillas! D:

Ooh thank you for the help.

And I was wondering if others do this. But some times I look at my drawing backwards. If on a piece of paper I hold it up backwards to the light. If it looks off then I should go back over the "off" parts. Does any one else do that or have I for once been clever? Can't say I'm all that better for it

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

shingworks In reply to Persphonefallen [2011-08-03 15:41:16 +0000 UTC]

Yep, it's called flipping an image It's done by artists quite frequently... if you hold it up to a window you can even draw on a flat surface

When practicing poses, what should we reference to? As in, when you drew all these poses, they stray from daily things to not-so-common. Did it all just come to you? I really don't want to reference to porn but when I try practicing poses my mind comes to a blank.

shingworks In reply to sadafkart [2011-07-21 04:13:02 +0000 UTC]

Sure, athletes are the best for me when I'm doing dynamic poses. They often wear "revealing" clothes and get into all kinds of funny shapes that people like to photograph... just think of an action, and there is probably an athlete doing it. You can also use a site like posemaniacs, they have a bunch of stock poses for you to look at at your leisure.

Oh I totally forgot you did this one. What annoys me is another tutorial around here, saying "if you can draw good girl poses (and draw feminine stuff), drawing men is totally easy!" I think that was rather opinionated. If you draw a couple of curvy lines you can make a sexy woman pose (imo!), but posing men so they are neither stiff nor swooshing around like women... is not so easy. And his guy poses were pretty feminine anyway.

ps you make a sexy gesture
annnd it just shows how making up little stories for your drawings make them better, like the guy getting punched :3

Like, a basic understanding of the skeleton, major body parts, major muscle groups and how they look in proportion to each other.
