Description
My first serious attempt on Realflow. It took almost two days to calculate the particles.
Generating mesh: about one day.
Tweaking animation and rendering (original:640x480): Almost 4 days.
That's almost a whole week!!
My machine was glowing in the dark after that...

But doesn't it look cool?
rendered with Cinema4D.

DonΒ΄t you have it in HD? jajaja just kidding

That would be an interesting task for my new machine. Sadly, all the project files of "blasted drop" are gone forever.

Absolutely stunning and inspiring! I can't even begin to imagine the amount of work that had to go into making this short animation. It's just outstanding!

ItΒ΄s less than you think. But most time is all waiting. The machine does the most of the work

Ah, in that case, I'm not sure I could stand all of the waiting. XD

How in the HELL does this take as much as 4 days? o_0

because realflow simulates liquids volumetricly. Displacement of physical mass can only be reached in a realistic way by simulating molecules. Also called "particles". Calculating their movement for an old 2.6 single core 32bit pentium4 was quite a job! About 60000 particle at 1000 (1) frames per second. On cinema4d, realflow doesnΒ΄t support motion blur. To achieve it, I had to render the subframes myself. A hell lot of work!

I'm terribly sorry. I don't really know how 3D modeling works entirely but I have seen my brother do it. xD And yes, I have heard that rendering takes quite a while but I still wasn't sure.
You did do A HELL OF A JOB on this though, so yes. xD
And yet they say that 3D animation is quicker and easier than 2D animation...

DonΒ΄t be sorry.
If you really like 3D, I suggest you to check out zBrush. Cool program. And way unconventional. Very intuitive!
Thank you for your comment

Are there any free programs I can try and model in that you know of? (not demos)I do enjoy 3D though but I may just stick with drawing.
You're always welcome.

Sculptris is free and seems to be quite interesting for organic stuff.
Blender is also good freeware and google sketchup should be available in a free version, too.
Indigo is a quite powerful unbiased freeware renderer for external renderings in very high quality.
Also found 3D Canvas. Freeware as well.
Also keep drawing. ItΒ΄s always good to be able to sketch what you are about to model.

I'm on Linux and I think it has a downloadable application for blender. Completely free. Thankyou.
The keep drawing is not a problem...I do it every day and it's a passion of mine.

Bloody well done, mate.

The original was rendered at 640x480 and 1000(!) frames.
Why 1000 frames? Because realflow doesnΒ΄t export any motion blur data at all. So I had to render subframes and put them together to smoothe motion blur frames with a 2nd render process. Hell of work and rendering!

Really cool! Not saying your work is bad or anything, I really do love it, but try a program called Blender, it's much faster, better results (simulation and graphics), can be used for a wide variety of things, including games, and it's free!

sicklizard In reply to miontre [2010-10-16 20:27:16 +0000 UTC]
Blender is definitely not faster of better than cinema4d.
This is a proffesional, physically correct simulation calculated with realflow 4. On a VERY slow computer! (pentium4 single core 32bit 2.6 ghz 512 mb ram)
The render time was also very high because the original animation was rendered at 640x480 and 1000 frames per second.
And freeware is never better than a 3500β¬ software. And thatΒ΄s only cinema 4d studio. Another bunch of bugs for realflow.
I donΒ΄t want to say blender is bad. But the current version of cinema 4D has everything I need. I usually donΒ΄t create such fluid things.
It was just a special unique project

Okay - but Blender is still better

LetΒ΄s stick to each opinion. I guess everyone like the most what he or she feel most comfortable with. Blender has a price-performance ratio - no doubt about that.
But in the end, the result counts and - well itΒ΄s a DD! What else should I say?

Okay, yeah, everyone has their own opinion, no point arguing, you arn't going to change anything
